Generic Devices - Device Details Overview

The Generic Devices - Device Details dialog displays additional device detail information for a specific generic device Generic devices are unknown devices which cannot be classified using any of the system or user defined classification criteria. Generic devices do not contain enough fingerprint data to classify them. Generic devices are grouped into device clusters by similar properties and can then be classified by the user either by assigning a classification set to the device cluster or creating a user defined rule.. Generic devices are displayed with the following type of Profile Information: Device Category of Generic, Device Family of Generic, and Device Type of Unclassified Device. The No Image device type image is displayed in Header section, because device type is unknown for generic devices.

This dialog is the same as the Classified Devices - Device Details dialog except for the following differences:

  • The Device Cluster associated with the generic device is displayed in the Profile Information Card under the Profile tab.
  • The Classification card under the Profile tab does not contain any information for a generic device.

At the top of the dialog, the Reclassify icon is displayed. When you click the Reclassify icon, the Classify Devices Using Rule dialog opens where you can create a rule A rule is a user defined classification set used by the system to classify unknown (generic) devices or reclassify devices. Rule classification overrides system classification. to classify generic devices.
