Configuring Capacity Licenses on HPE Aruba Networking 9240 Gateways

You must manually apply, update, or remove the HPE Aruba Networking 9240 gateways capacity licenses using the gateway's CLI.

Applying a Capacity License

To apply a capacity license to an HPE Aruba Networking 9240 gateway, perform the following steps in the gateway's CLI:

  1. Execute the show capacity license command to check if a capacity license is applied on the gateway.

    #show capacity license

No capacity license installed on the controller

Current system capacity: A9240 Capacity stored in flash: base

  2. Add the license key obtained from the HPE Networking Support Portal using the cap-license-add command.

    #cap-license-add 5fPqk1dF-hpM4DG+s-qlSOTOsq-ixrLnKxL-DUrto/5D-kWeEQizj-N4pu4A Limits updated!

  3. Execute the show capacity license command to check if a capacity license is applied on the gateway.

    #show capacity license

Capacity License Key: 5fPqk1dF-hpM4DG+s-qlSOTOsq-ixrLnKxL-DUrto/5D-kWeEQizj-N4pu4A Current system capacity: A9240 Capacity stored in flash: gold

  4. Optionally, run the show capacity license limits command to check the license limits.

Removing a Capacity License

If you have added a capacity license to an HPE Aruba Networking 9240 gateway and want to remove it, then perform the following steps in the gateway's CLI:

  1. Execute the show capacity license command to check if a capacity license is applied on the gateway.

    #show capacity license

    Capacity stored in flash: silver

    Capacity License Key: mHuRYPRN-xMPCJ0kM-dLW4k/B1-rzDgabS+-R9hwxu+O-aI/d8aP5-ZSHO9A

    Current system capacity: A9240_silver

  2. If the alphanumeric string displays Capacity License Key, then execute the cap-license-remove command to remove the capacity license.

    #cap-license-remove mHuRYPRN-xMPCJ0kM-dLW4k/B1-rzDgabS+-R9hwxu+O-aI/d8aP5-ZSHO9A

Please reload the Gateway for new capacity license limits to take effect.

The capacity license is removed from the gateway.

Upgrading Gateways with Capacity License

Capacity licenses are not retained on HPE Aruba Networking 9240 gateways when you downgrade from AOS 10.6 to a lower version, and later upgrade back to AOS 10.6. You must apply the capacity license to the gateway again.

To add a capacity license to an HPE Aruba Networking 9240 gateway, perform the following steps in the gateway's CLI:

Downgrading Gateways with Capacity License

If you have added the Gold or Silver capacity license to an HPE Aruba Networking 9240 gateway running AOS 10.6 and want to downgrade to lower AOS-10 versions like 10.5,10.4, or 10.3, then you must first remove the capacity license while still in the 10.6 image, and only then initiate the downgrade.

To downgrade an HPE Aruba Networking 9240 gateway with capacity license, perform the following steps in the gateway's CLI:

  1. Execute the show capacity license command on the gateway to check if capacity license is applied on the gateway.

    #show capacity license

    Capacity stored in flash: silver

    Capacity License Key: mHuRYPRN-xMPCJ0kM-dLW4k/B1-rzDgabS+-R9hwxu+O-aI/d8aP5-ZSHO9A

    Current system capacity: A9240_silver

  2. If there is alphanumeric string shown as Capacity License Key, then execute the cap-license-remove command to remove the capacity license.

#cap-license-remove mHuRYPRN-xMPCJ0kM-dLW4k/B1-rzDgabS+-R9hwxu+O-aI/d8aP5-ZSHO9A Please reload the Gateway for new capacity license limits to take effect.

  3. Downgrade the gateway to the required AOS-10 version.

Transferring of License

To transfer a license, copy the license key from the HPE Networking Support Portal or the email and paste it on the gateway based on the serial number. You cannot transfer the capacity license from an HPE Aruba Networking 9240 gateway that is offline in HPE Aruba Networking Central. If an HPE Aruba Networking 9240 gateway is down, reach out to HPE Networking Support to transfer the license.

Handling License Expiry

The 9240 capacity license is perpetual in nature, so license expiry does not apply to it. However, if you were provided with the Silver or Gold EVAL license with a limited validity period, such EVAL licenses expire after the EVAL license expiry.

Migrating from AOS 8 to AOS 10

To migrate a device from AOS 8 to AOS 10, you must log into the HPE Networking Support Portal and use the migrate option. The LMS Local Management Switch. In multi-controller networks, each controller acts as an LMS and terminates user traffic from the APs, processes, and forwards the traffic to the wired network. essentially maps the license keys (which were generated for AOS 8) to the AOS 10 SKU Stock Keeping Unit. SKU refers to the product and service identification code for the products in the inventory., so that the same is reflected in View License on the HPE Networking Support Portal.
