Gateways with Underperforming WAN Links
The WAN Wide Area Network. WAN is a telecommunications network or computer network that extends over a large geographical distance. links when a better (non-LTE Long Term Evolution. LTE is a 4G wireless communication standard that provides high-speed wireless communication for mobile phones and data terminals. See 4G.) link is available in the network. This Gateway are using underperforming WAN links insight compares the latency of the gateway links and reports if a low-latency link is under-utilized. The insight is categorized under availability.
insight can be accessed from the , , and context. Certain policy configurations are applied to gateways to route traffic through the uplinks available in the network. This insight occurs when the user does not configure these policies on the links and traffic is assigned to the gateway by a round-robin method across all available links in the network. This insight provides information about gateways that are using poorer performingThe link latency is scored based on the following:
- Absolute latency measurement—The measurement is achieved from the telemetry of the probe IPs configured in the network. It is measured in milliseconds (ms).
- Relative latency measurement—This measurement is achieved by comparing different gateways that use the same probe IP in the network. It is measured in percentile.
This insight displays the following information:
Insight Summary
The insight summary provides the following details:
- —Displays the possible causes for gateways using under-performing WAN links in the network.
- —Displays the possible recommendation against each failure to resolve the same.
Time Series Graph
At the Global context, this graph displays the number of gateways using high latency WAN links in the network during the selected time period.
At the Site and Device (gateway) contexts, it displays the average latency (ms) of high latency WAN link along with baseline value (prob target peer average latency) per uplink type in the network during the selected time period. The uplink type can be selected from the drop-down list in the time series graph.
You can hover your mouse over each bar graph to see the exact number of bad gateways in each timestamp.

Site
Lists the number of sites using lower latency uplinks. Click the arrow to view the pictorial graph of the Good vs Bad comparison. Click the number displayed on the card, to view a detailed description of the impacted sites:
- —Name of the site impacted by the insight and link to the specific insight at the site context.
- —Number of gateways impacted by low latency in each site.
Gateway
Lists the number of gateways using lower latency uplinks. Click the arrow to view the pictorial graph of the Good vs Bad comparison. Click the number displayed on the card, to view a detailed description of the impacted gateways:
- Gateway Name—Name of the gateway impacted by the insight.
- Serial—Serial number of the gateway device.
- High Latency Latency is an expression of time that a data packet takes to travel from one designated point to another. Network latency can be measured by determining the round-trip time (RTT) for a packet of data to travel to a destination and back again.—High latency value in the network.
- Low Latency—Low latency value in the network.
- Total Uplinks—Displays the total number of uplinks.
- MAC Media Access Control. A MAC address is a unique identifier assigned to network interfaces for communications on a network. —MAC address of the gateway and link to the specific insight at the gateway context.
- Site—Name of the site where the gateway resides.
