Setting RSSI Threshold and Dwell Time for a Site
The RSSI Received Signal Strength Indicator. RSSI is a mechanism by which RF energy is measured by the circuitry on a wireless NIC (0-255). The RSSI is not standard across vendors. Each vendor determines its own RSSI scale/values. and dwell time configuration allows the administrators to perform the following actions:
- Classify the type of client.
- Analyze presence patterns.
- Determine if the usage has increased over time.
To modify the default RSSI thresholds and dwell time configuration parameters for a site, complete the following steps:
- In the WebUI, set the filter to .
The dashboard context for the selected site is displayed.
- Under , click > .
- Click the icon.
- In the table, click the icon.
The window is displayed.
- Under , specify the value for the field.
By default, the RSSI threshold value is set to -65 dBm Decibel-Milliwatts. dBm is a logarithmic measurement (integer) that is typically used in place of mW to represent receive-power level. AMP normalizes all signals to dBm, so that it is easy to evaluate performance between various vendors.. You can specify a value within the range of -100 to 0. - Under , specify the value for the field.
By default, the RSSI threshold value is set to -90 dBm. You can specify a value within the range of -100 to 0. - Under , specify the values for .
By default, the dwell time is set to 5 minutes. - Click .
