Replacing a Controller

You can replace the controller on the Summary page of HPE Aruba Networking Central On-Premises WebUI.

To replace a controller from the summary page, complete the following steps:

  1. In the HPE Aruba Networking Central On-Premises app Short form for application. It generally refers to the application that is downloaded and used on mobile devices. , set the filter to Global.
    The dashboard context for the selected filter is displayed.
  2. Under Manage, click Devices > Controllers.
    A list of controllers is displayed in the List view.
  3. Click Offline to view only offline controllers in the table.
  4. In the Device Name column, click the controller that you want to replace.
    The Controller Details page is displayed.
  5. In the Actions drop-down list, click Replace Device.
  6. In the Replace Device pop-up window, click Replace.

    The Replace Controller <serial number of old device> is displayed. It consists of the following sections:

    1. Select a Device—Choose the new controller to replace. You can search using the serial number. Click Next.

    2. Verify Device Attributes—Displays the attributes that the new device inherits. Verify the following details and click Next.

      • Serial Number—The serial number is a unique value. The serial number indicates the value of the new controller.

      • Group Name—The group name that is inherited from the old controller.

      • Site Assigned—The site that is inherited from the old controller.

      • Labels Assigned—The label(s) that is inherited from the old controller.

    3. Confirmation—Displays the serial number of old and new device along with the attributes of the old controller. Confirm the details and click Replace.

      Replacement is an irreversible operation.

  7. On the Request Accepted pop-up window, click Done to initiate the replacement process.

    A progress bar is displayed on the right-hand corner of the Controller Details page.

  8. Alternatively, you can check the progress of replacement on Devices Under Replacement page under Organization > Network Structure > Device Replacement tile. For more information, see Viewing Network Structure.

    The status in the progress bar changes to Device replacement in progress. Hover over the progress bar to view more details.

  9. To view the logs, navigate to Analyze > Audit Trail.

    Logs are generated for the Device Replacement category on the Audit Trail page. For more information, see Viewing Audit Trail Logs.

  10. After successful controller replacement, navigate to Devices > Controllers to verify the details of the new controller.

    The controllers are displayed in the List view.

  11. Click Online to view only online controllers.
  12. Search the new controller using serial number.
