Viewing Application Performance

The Application Performance tab displays the throughput, client, and latency graphs for the selected application, over the monitoring window as set in the timeline. Users can enable Application Performance Monitoring if they need to obtain latency statistics from the gateway.

Note: To enable Application Performance Monitoring, see Configuring Application Visibility for Access Points.

Throughput and Clients charts will be displayed by default, even if Application Performance monitoring is not enabled.

Figure 2: Application Performance Charts with Application Performance Monitoring Enabled

To view the application performance, complete the following steps:

  1. Navigate to the list view for Applications. For information on navigating to the list view, see Viewing Application Visibility in List View.

  2. Click an application name in the list view.

    The Application information is displayed.

  3. Expand the Performance tab to view the application performance charts for the selected application.

You can switch between the Network and UXI details by using the Source drop-down. For the Network tab, you can also click the Show Details arrow to display even more information.

The following table describes the Application Performance charts.

    Table 1: Application Performance Charts

    Chart

    Description

    Throughput

Shows a graph of the transmitted and received throughput for the selected application over the current monitoring window.

    Clients

Displays the number of clients connected to the application over the current monitoring window.

    Client to Application Latency (RTT)

Indicates the round-trip time (RTT) between the client device and the application server.

    Client to Gateway Latency

Indicates the network delay between the client device and the gateway.

Latency Indicates the amount of time (in milliseconds) it takes for a packet to travel from the client to the destination and back (round-trip time).
    Packet Loss

Indicates the percentage of packets that fail to reach their destination.

Jitter Represents the variation in packet arrival times (in milliseconds).
HTTP GET (Elapsed Time) Indicates the time taken to complete an HTTP GET request, typically used to assess web application responsiveness.
Note:
  • Application performance monitoring is not supported on the following gateways: HPE Aruba Networking 7205, 7210, 7220, and 7240 gateways.

  • HPE Aruba Networking Central calculates Application Experience based on the end to end latency reported by Gateways (any AOS-10 version) for all TCP flows going through the network.

  • Health is calculated based on the Client to Application Latency. For more information, refer to How Application Health Is Calculated.
