Configuration Health Dashboard

The Configuration Health dashboard provides a unified view of configuration deployments across the network, indicating how closely each device aligns with its intended configuration. It helps identify devices that are Out of Sync or Synchronized and highlights the underlying configuration processing issues (Import, Validation, or Distribution) causing devices to be Out of Sync and provides informational visibility such as filtered configuration for synchronized devices.

This topic covers the following sections:

Viewing the Configuration Health Dashboard

To view the Configuration Health dashboard complete the following steps:

  1. Navigate to the expanded Configuration Health card. For more information, see Configuration Health Card.

  2. Select a value under any of the synchronization state columns.

The Configuration Health dashboard is displayed, filtered for the selected parameter.

Note: Configuration Health strictly inherits and enforces the exact same RBAC and CRUD rules as Configuration Profile Management. With RRP restrictions in place, device visibility and configuration status are limited to the scopes authorized by the assigned RRP.

Configuration Health Table

The following table describes the columns in the Configuration Health table.

Table 1: Configuration Health Table Details

Column

Description

Name Displays the hostname of the device.
Last Calibration Timestamp Displays the date and time configuration synchronization status was calibrated for the device.
Site Displays the site to which the device is mapped.
Device Function Displays the device function assigned to the device.
Configuration Status Displays the configuration synchronization status of the device (Out of Sync, Update in Progress, or Synchronized).
Active Errors on Device Displays the active error categories— Configuration Push Failures, Configuration Pull Failures, and Invalid Configuration—currently affecting the device.
Top Priority Issue Displays the most critical issue associated with the device, requiring immediate attention, without navigating deeper.
Recommended Action Displays the suggested fix or next step to resolve the top priority issue.
Device Type Displays the device type.
Model Displays the device model.
Serial Number Displays the device serial number.
Device Group Displays the device group.
Note:

To view the Configuration Health table without filters, click the filter icon to display the Filters pop-up, and click Clear.

Configuration Synchronization States

The supported configuration synchronization states are as follows:

  • Out of Sync—Displays the number of devices with configurations that deviate from the intended state.

  • Update in Progress—Displays the number of devices for which configuration deployment is in progress.

  • Synchronized—Displays the number of devices whose configurations are synchronized with the intended state, including devices with informational filtered configuration.

Error Categories

The synchronization error categories are as follows:

  • Import:

    • Configuration Pull Failures—Errors that result in configuration pull failures. In these scenarios, the configuration could not be retrieved from the device and reconciled as profiles. Clicking CLI View, opens a pop-up where CLI data is displayed to help the user identify the specific configuration that could not be pulled.

  • Validation:

    • Invalid Configuration —Validation errors detected during deployment that must be corrected and require explicit user action.

    • Filtered Configuration —Configuration elements that are not applicable to the device and are filtered during processing. The remaining configuration is applied to the device.

      Note:

This category is informational and usually occurs due to hardware limitations, firmware constraints, or license restrictions.

  • Distribution:

    • Configuration Push Failures—Errors encountered while pushing configuration from HPE Aruba Networking Central to the device.

Determining the Synchronization Status

The configuration synchronization status of a devices is derived as follows:

  • Out of Sync—Indicates that the device configuration is not fully synchronized with the intended state. This occurs when issues such as invalid configuration during validation, configuration push failures during distribution, or configuration pull failures during import are detected. The device remains Out of Sync until the issues are resolved.

  • Synchronized: Indicates that the device configuration matches the intended state. The status is shown as Synchronized in the following cases:

    • The device configuration is successfully applied and no issues are detected.

    • Configuration elements that are not applicable to the device are filtered during processing. In this case, the device remains Synchronized, and filtered configuration details are shown as informational visibility.

  • Update in Progress: Indicates that a configuration change is currently being applied to the device. The device remains in Update in Progress state until the configuration processing is complete.

Force re-sync at the Device level

This configuration recovers devices stuck in distinct configuration states.

Note:

RBAC enforcement for the Resync operation is currently ineffective, allowing users across all roles to perform resync actions.

Force re-sync on one device

To force a re-sync configuration on one device:

  1. Within the landing page, locate and expand the Configuration Health card and click on any device status.

  2. Locate your device within the list and go to the Recommended Action column.

  3. Click the resync icon.

  4. A Re-Sync Configuration for <device name> window pops up. Click Confirm to force a re-sync.

Force re-sync on multiple devices

To force a re-sync on multiple devices:

  1. Within the landing page, to to the Configuration Health card and click on Synchronized.

  2. Select the checkboxes to the left of the device names. Press the Shift button on your keyboard to select a wider range of devices.

    Note:

Only 50 devices can be resynced at a time. If you attempt selecting more than the allowed number, an error will populate with the following message: "A maximum of 50 devices can be resynced at one time."

  3. Click the Re-Sync tab located at the top right.

  4. A Re-Sync Configuration for <number> window pops up. Click Confirm to force a resync.

  5. A Configuration re-sync initated successfully pops up at the top right-hand corner, confirming the re-sync.
