Asset Tracking

HPE Aruba Networking Central enables you to track battery powered BLE hardware asset tags that customers attach to their assets, for example, a bed in a hospital or pallet in a warehouse.

Following are the benefits of asset tracking:

• Improves asset utilization, resulting in improved capital expenditure and management of idle assets.

• Increases staff efficiency by automating inventory management and search processes.

• Streamlines operational decision making, leading to improved workflows and customer satisfaction.

• Reduces total cost of ownership (TCO) by leveraging a customer’s existing Aruba WLAN.

• Provides easy-to-use visual map views so that assets can be easily located.

If your application implements RBAC checks, you must update to the new permissions listed in the table below:

Asset Tracking Workflow

The asset tracking workflow requires two levels of configuration that includes the following:

1. Setting up IoT Operations in Classic Central.

2. Placing the APs on a geolocated reference floor plan in HPE Aruba Networking Central.

Navigating to Asset Tracking Page

To navigate to the asset tracking page, complete the following steps:

1. In the HPE Aruba Networking Central landing page, click the menu icon to open the Menu page.

2. In the Asset Tag Inventory card, click Manage.

   The Asset Tag Inventory page is displayed in the list view.

Click the customize columns icon to adjust the visibility and position of columns in the asset tag table.

HPE Aruba Networking Central enables you to sort the column information of the Asset Tag Inventory table in either ascending or descending order by clicking the sort icon.

The following table describes the parameters in the table.

Table 1: Asset Tag Inventory Table Parameters

Column	Description
Name	Displays the name of the asset tag.
MAC Address	Displays the MAC address of the asset tag.
Classes	Displays the class of the asset tag.
Custom ID	Displays the custom ID of the asset tag.
Labels	Displays the label name as defined by the user for each tag. Labels are categories that enables users to organize tags.
Battery Level	Displays the battery level percentage of the asset.
Last Known Location	Displays the site name, building name, and the floorplan name of the asset it was last located.
Last Seen	Displays the last seen timestamp of the asset tag. This timestamp is updated whenever a new location is received for the asset tag.

Asset Tag Side Panel

In the Asset Tag Inventory table, select an asset tag from the list to view its additional details. Click on the tag for which you want to see the details and the Asset Tag side panel displays the following information about that specific tag:

Parameter	Description
Name	Displays the name of the asset tag.
Image	Displays the image of the asset tag.
Edit	Allows you to edit the information of an asset tag. To edit an asset tag, it is essential to have either Update or Admin rights. This functionality is not available to users with Read-only rights.
Note	Allows you to add additional information to an asset tag. To add a note to an asset tag, it is essential to have either Update or Admin rights. This functionality is not available to users with Read-only rights.
MAC Address	Displays the MAC address of the asset tag.
Custom ID	Displays the custom ID of the asset tag.
Type	Displays the type of device of the asset tag. HPE Aruba Networking Central supports only HPE ANW devices, Blyott devices, and Minew device types.
Battery Level	Displays the battery level percentage of the asset tag.
First Seen	Displays the first seen time stamp of the asset tag.
Last Seen	Displays the last seen timestamp of the asset tag. This timestamp is updated whenever a new location is received for the asset tag.
Labels	Displays the label name as defined by the user for each tag. Labels are categories that enables users to organize tags.
Location	Displays the current location of the asset tag in the mini-map. Click on the expand icon to view the location of the asset tag in the floorplan map.
Tag History	Displays the history list of asset tag locations.

You can edit the information of an asset tag. To edit the information of an asset tag, complete the following steps:

1. In the HPE Aruba Networking Central landing page, click the menu icon to open the Menu page.

2. In the Asset Tag Inventory card, click Manage.

3. In the Asset Tag Inventory table, select an asset tag for which you wish to update the image.

4. Click the edit icon on the Asset Tag side panel.

5. Update the Tag Name, image of an asset tag, Custom ID, and Labels details.

6. Click Update to save the updated details for the asset tag.

Additionally, you can also add a note by selecting the clipboard icon on the Asset Tag panel. When you hover over the clipboard icon, a tooltip appears displaying the note added for the asset tag. If no note is added for the asset tag, the tool tip will display Note.

Updating an Image of an Asset Tag

HPE Aruba Networking Central allows you to update an image of an asset tag. To update an asset tag, it is essential to have either Update or Admin rights. This functionality is not available to users with Read-only rights. The valid image formats of an asset tag include .png, .jpeg, .jpg, and .webp. The maximum size of the image is 4 MB.

To update an image of an asset tag, complete the following steps:

1. In the HPE Aruba Networking Central landing page, click the menu icon to open the Menu page.

2. In the Asset Tag Inventory card, click Manage.

3. In the Asset Tag Inventory table, select an asset tag for which you wish to update the image.

4. Click the edit icon on the Asset Tag side panel.

5. On the Asset Tag page, you can drag an image or click to upload one from your local drive.

6. Click the delete icon to delete the image of an asset tag.

7. Click Update to update the image of an asset tag.

When you select a new image for an asset tag, either by dragging it or uploading it from your local drive, the image is saved permanently for later retrieval once a user clicks the Update button.

Filtering the Asset Tags

HPE Aruba Networking Central allows you to set criteria to filter asset tags effectively.

To set criteria for filtering asset tags, complete the following steps:

1. In the Asset Tag Inventory page, click the filter icon.

   The Filters pane is displayed.

2. In the Filters pane, enter the following:

   1. Either select a label from the Labels drop-down list and then click icon or select one or more classes from the Classes field.

   2. Click Apply to apply the filter(s).

   3. Click Clear Filters on the Asset Tag Inventory page to delete the filter(s).

Searching an Asset Tag

HPE Aruba Networking Central allows you to search asset tags based on name, MAC address, and custom ID of the asset tags. To search for an asset tag, enter the name, MAC address, or custom ID of the asset tag in the search bar.

Creating a Label for an Asset Tag

A label for an asset tag is used to identify and track asset tags efficiently. You can assign multiple labels to an asset tag.

To create a label, complete the following steps:

1. In the HPE Aruba Networking Central landing page, click the menu icon to open the Menu page.

2. In the Asset Tag Inventory card, click Manage.

3. In the Asset Tag Inventory table, select an asset tag for which you wish to create a new label for.

4. Click the edit icon on the Asset Tag side panel.

5. On the Asset Tag page, click Create Label from the Label drop-down list.

6. On the Asset Tag Label page, enter a name for the asset tag label.

7. Click Create.
