Multi-Level Hierarchy
The multi-level hierarchy describes a vertical structure characterized by a clear parent-child relationship. The hierarchy is comprised of the following five scopes:
-
Global
-
Site Collection
-
Site
-
Device
-
Device Group
A scope is an aggregation of devices and sites with which applications can associate their operations and workflows. Scopes can be hierarchically listed, which allows the applications to define and deduce their workload efficiently. Each scope within the hierarchy has a dedicated configuration database.

Important Points About Multi-Level Hierarchy
-
The list of available scopes depend on your configurations.
-
The scope that you select in the left navigation is displayed as the corresponding scope name in list view on the right.
-
When you click any of the parent scopes (Global, Site Collections, Sites, Devices, or Device Groups) in the left navigation, HPE Aruba Networking Central automatically updates the page context to Global with Network Overview as the context name.
-
When you navigate from a specific site context, or when you click a specific site from the list view on the right, then the selected Site name is displayed as scope name in the left navigation. HPE Aruba Networking Central updates the page context to Site with the selected site name as the context name.
-
When you navigate from a specific device context, or when you click a specific device from the list view on the right, then the selected Device name is displayed as the scope name in the left navigation. HPE Aruba Networking Central updates the page context to the particular device type (Access Point, Gateway, Access Switch, Core Switch, Aggregate Switch, or Bridge) with the selected device name as the context name.
-
You can also change the context to Site Collection or Device Group by clicking on the specific Site Collection or Device Group from the list view on the right.

If you click the cancel icon next to any scope displayed on the left navigation pane, then all selected child items for that scope is removed from the left navigation pane, showing only the parent scopes.
The hierarchy offers three vertical pathways to the device level:
-
Global > Site Collection > Site > Device
-
Global > Site > Device
-
Global > Device Groups > Device
