Viewing Devices

To view devices in the hierarchy, complete the following steps:

  1. In the HPE Aruba Networking Central landing page, select a site from the Sites menu.

    Alternatively, you can click the expand icon on the Sites menu to search for a site from the list.

    The site dashboard is displayed with the network and connectivity information for the site.

  2. Click the configuration icon.

  3. In the left navigation pane, click Devices.

    The Devices page is displayed with a list of all the devices.

    In the Devices page, you can view the following information.

    Column

    Description

    Name

    Displays the device name.

    Type

    Displays the type of device and the corresponding deployment type

    The following list displays the device type and the deployment types:

    • AP—Standalone or virtual controller (swarm).

    • Switch—Standalone or stack.

    • Gateway—Standalone or cluster.

    Model

    Displays the hardware model of the device.

    Device Function

    Displays the persona assigned to the device collection or group device in Classic Central.

    Site

    Displays the site to which the device belongs.

    Device Group

    Displays the device group to which the device belongs.

    IP Address

    Displays the IP address of the device.

    MAC Address

    Displays the MAC address of the device.

    Serial Number

    Displays the serial number of the device.
Note:

When you click a particular device on the Devices page, HPE Aruba Networking Central updates the page context to the particular device type (Access Point, Gateway, Switch, or Bridge) with the selected device name as the context name.

Important Points About Device Scope

  • When a device is unassigned from a site, it loses all of its configuration due to the loss of its hierarchy. As a result, all device-level configurations will be deleted. Therefore, even if the device is reassigned to the same site, it will receive the site-level configuration but will not recover any of the previous device-level configurations.

  • When you remove a device subscription using HPE GreenLake Platform (GLP), the device is disconnected from Classic Central. Hence, the device status is displayed as Offline on the Devices page of HPE Aruba Networking Central. However, the device remains associated with the same site and group.

    Note:

    Since bridges are not supported in Classic Central, the subscription removal option for bridges is not applicable to Classic Central. However, the bridge status is still displayed as Offline on the Devices page in HPE Aruba Networking Central.

  • When you remove a device assignment using HPE GreenLakePlatform (GLP), the device is unprovisioned from its site and group in HPE Aruba Networking Central. As a result, the device no longer appears on the Devices and Sites page for the site context. In addition, the site association for the device is removed in Classic Central, and the device is moved to an Unassigned state. To restore the device association in HPE Aruba Networking Central, assign the device to an existing or new site or group in Classic Central.

    Note:

    When a bridge assignment is removed using GLP, the bridge is unprovisioned only in HPE Aruba Networking Central since bridges are not supported in Classic Central.

  • When you remove a device assignment using HPE GreenLakePlatform (GLP) after unassigning from site or group from Classic Central, the device is unprovisioned from its site and group in HPE Aruba Networking Central. Also, the device is part of the unassigned site in Classic Central. As a result, the device no longer appears on the Devices page and on the Sites page for the site context. To restore the device association in HPE Aruba Networking Central, assign the device to any site or group in Classic Central.

    Note:

    In a deployment cluster that requires switching between Classic Central and HPE Aruba Networking Central for specific tasks, bridges cannot be unassigned from a site or assigned to a device group in HPE Aruba Networking Central. Instead, bridges can only be moved from one site to another. When a bridge is removed using HPE GreenLake, it is moved to the unassigned devices view only in HPE Aruba Networking Central.

Once we remove a device assignment from Classic Central application using HPE GreenLake (GLP), Classic Central still allows users to assign or unassign devices to and from sites and HPE Aruba Networking Central groups even when the device is offline.

  • If such changes occur, users may see a mismatch between the device counts for the respective sites between Classic Central and HPE Aruba Networking Central.

  • Users will also see audit log entries reflecting these assignments in classic central but not in HPE Aruba Networking Central.
