AP Uplink Profile

Most network devices such as APs, wireless routers, switches, and hubs are connected to a network backbone using Ethernet. In enterprise networks, APs normally connect to a switch with an Ethernet uplink and at homes, an AP normally connects to an ISP modem or a small switch using Ethernet. The AP Uplink profile card allows you to create and manage AP uplink profiles to apply Ethernet LAN uplink, VLAN, IP address management, and authentication settings on the uplink of an AP or collection of APs.

Creating an AP Uplink Profile

To create an AP Uplink profile, complete the following steps:

  1. In the HPE Aruba Networking Central landing page, click the configurationicon.
    The Profiles tab is displayed.

  2. In the left navigation menu, select one of the following options:

    • Library—This is the default selection. If you create profiles in the Library, then you must assign scope and device functions to the profiles. For more information, see Assigning Scope to an AP Uplink Profile.

    • Global—If you create profiles at the Global level, then the profiles have Global scope assigned by default.

    • Site Collections—If you create profiles at the Site Collections level, then the profiles have site collection scope assigned by default.

    • Sites—If you create profiles at the Site level, then the profiles have site scope assigned by default.

    • Devices—If you create profiles at the Device level, then the profiles have device scope assigned by default.

    • Device Groups—If you create profiles at the Device Group level, then the profiles have device group scope assigned by default.

    Note:

    • To create profiles at the Global level, select the device type from the Device Function drop-down list before step 4.

    • To create profiles at the Site Collections, Sites, Devices, or Device Group level, complete the following steps before step 4:

      • Select Site Collection, Site, Device, or Device Group in the left navigation menu.

      • Select a Site Collection, Site, Device, or Device Group from the list view depending on the level where you are creating the profile.

      • Select the device type from the Device Function drop-down list.

  3. On the Interfaces card, click AP Uplink.
    Alternatively, you can complete the following steps:

    1. On the Interfaces card, click Manage.

    2. On the AP Uplink card, click Manage.

    The AP Uplink list view is displayed.

  4. Click Create profile.
    The Create AP Uplink Profile page is displayed.

  5. Configure the AP uplink parameters as described in the following table.

    Parameter

    Description

    Create as a local profile

    Select this option if you want to configure this profile as local.

    Note: The Create as a local profile option is available at the Global, Site Collections, Sites, Devices, and Device Groups levels; it is not available at the Library level.

    Name

    Enter the name of the AP uplink profile.

    Description

    Enter the description for the AP uplink profile.

    LAN Uplink(s)

    Select the Ethernet check box to configure Ethernet LAN uplink parameters

    Ethernet LAN Uplink

    Select LAN Port(s)

    Select a port from the drop-down list.

    Port Mode

    Select the port mode from one of the following options:

    • Access—Carries traffic only for the VLAN to which it is assigned.

    • Trunk—Carries traffic for multiple VLANs.

    Access

    Access VLAN

    Enter the access VLAN ID.

    Range: 1 to 4094

    Trunk

     

    Native VLAN

    Enter the native VLAN ID.

    Range: 1 to 4094

    Allowed VLANs

    Enter the allowed VLANs. Port carries traffic for all allowed VLANs.

    Management VLAN

    Select one of the following options:

    • Native VLAN

    • Tagged VLAN

    Management VLAN ID

    Enter the VLAN ID. This option is enabled when you select Management VLAN ID as Tagged VLAN.

    Range: 1 to 4094

    IP Address Management

    IPv4 Management

    Select one of the following options:

    • DHCP

    • Static

    IPv6 Address Format

    Select the IP address format as one of the following options:

    • EUI-64

    • Stable Privacy Algorithm

    This option is enabled when you select IPv4 Management as DHCP.

    IP Address

    Enter the IP address. This option is enabled when you select IPv4 Management as Static.

    Subnet Mask

    Enter the subnet mask. This option is enabled when you select IPv4 Management as Static.

    Default Gateway

    Enter the default gateway. This option is enabled when you select IPv4 Management as Static.

    Name Servers

    Enter the name server. Click Add icon to add new name server.

    Authentication

    IEEE 802.1X Authentication

    Select this option to allows users to be authenticated by a central authority.

    EAP Method

    Select the EAP method from one of the following options:

    • PEAP MSCHAPv2—Utilizes the user account credentials (user name and password) stored in Active Directory Domain Services to authenticate wireless access clients, instead of using smart cards or user and computer certificates for client authentication.

    • TLS—Requires an exchange of proof of identities through public key cryptography (such as digital certificates)

    Use Common Credentials

    Select this check box to configure the credentials:

    • Username—Enter the user name.

    • Password—Enter the password.

    TLS

    Certificate Type

    Select the certificate type from the following options:

    • Device

    • EST

    • User

    EST and User

    Validate Server Cert

    Select the check box to enable server certificate validation.

    Advanced

    Speed

    Select the speed from the drop-down list.

    Duplex

    Select the duplex from one of the following options:

    • Auto

    • Full

    • Half

    Energy Efficient Ethernet

    Select this check box to allow the APs to consume less power during periods of low data activity.

  6. Click Create.

    The newly created AP uplink profile is displayed in the list view.

  7. To edit a profile, complete the following steps:

    1. Click anywhere on the row of the profile in the list view.

      The profile edit view is displayed in the side panel.

    2. Edit the required parameters.

    3. Click Update.

  8. To delete an AP uplink profile, hover on the profile name, and click the delete icon.

  9. To search for a profile, type the profile name in the search bar.

    The search bar displays dynamic results as soon as you start typing.

Note:

The firmware version 10.4.x does not support customization of the AP management VLAN. As a result, you can only use the default VLAN 1 as the Layer 3 management VLAN for the AP. When using firmware 10.4.x, do not change the uplink port native VLAN from VLAN 1.

Assigning Scope to an AP Uplink Profile

For profiles created under Library, you must assign a scope and device function to be able to use its features and functionality.

To assign scope to a profile, complete the following steps:

  1. In the HPE Aruba Networking Central landing page, click the configurationicon.
    The Profiles tab is displayed.

  2. On the System card, click AP Uplink.
    Alternatively, you can complete the following steps:

    1. On the System card, click Manage.

    2. On the AP Uplink card, click Manage.

    The AP Uplink list view is displayed.

  3. Hover on the profile to which you want to assign a scope and click the ellipsis icon.

  4. Select Assign.

    The Assign Profile side panel is displayed.

  5. Select the device types from Device Function list.

  6. To add a scope, click the Add icon on the Scopes table.

  7. Select a scope from the following Scope Level options in the drop-down list.

    • Global—Selecting this option assigns the scope at the Global level.

    • Site Collections—Select the site collections from the Assign to Scope drop-down list.

    • Sites—Select the sites from the Assign to Scope drop-down list.

    • Devices—Select the devices from the Assign to Scope drop-down list.

    • Device Groups—Select the device groups from the Assign to Scope drop-down list.

  8. Click Add.

    The Scopes table displays the newly added scopes.

  9. Click Assign.

    The AP Uplink list displays the device functions and number of scopes assigned to the profile.

  10. To unassign a scope from a profile, complete the following steps:

    1. Hover on the profile name and click the Ellipsis icon.

    2. Select Unassign.

      The Unassign pop-up window is displayed.

    3. Select the required scope and click Unassign.

  11. To customize the AP Uplink profile list, click the Customize Columns icon .
