DHCP Pool

A DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) Pool is a range of IP Addresses that a DHCP server can dynamically allocate to devices on a network. The primary purpose of a DHCP pool is to manage the distribution of IP Addresses to devices, ensuring that each device can communicate on the network without manual configuration.

Creating a DHCP Pool Profile

To create a DHCP Pool profile, complete the following steps:

  1. In the HPE Aruba Networking Central landing page, click the configurationicon.
    The Profiles tab is displayed.

  2. In the left navigation menu, select one of the following options:

    • Library—This is the default selection. If you create profiles in the Library, then you must assign scope and device functions to the profiles. For more information, see DHCP Pool.

    • Global—If you create profiles at the Global level, then the profiles have Global scope assigned by default.

    • Site Collections—If you create profiles at the Site Collections level, then the profiles have site collection scope assigned by default.

    • Sites—If you create profiles at the Site level, then the profiles have site scope assigned by default.

    • Devices—If you create profiles at the Device level, then the profiles have device scope assigned by default.

    • Device Groups—If you create profiles at the Device Group level, then the profiles have device group scope assigned by default.

    Note:

    • To create profiles at the Global level, select the device type from the Device Function drop-down list before step 4.
    • To create profiles at the Site Collections, Sites, Devices, and Device Group level, complete the following steps before step 4:
      1. Select Site Collection, Site, Device, or Device Group in the left navigation menu.
      2. Select a Site Collection, Site, Device, or Device Group from the list view depending on the level where you are creating the profile.
      3. Select the device type from the Device Function drop-down list.

  3. On the Network Services card, click DHCP Pool.
    Alternatively, you can complete the following steps:

    1. On the Network Services card, click Manage.

    2. On the DHCP Pool card, click Manage.

    The DHCP Pool list view is displayed.

  4. Click Create Profile
    The Create Profile side panel is displayed.

  5. Enter the DHCP Pool profile parameters:

    • Create as a local profile—Select this checkbox if you want to configure this profile as local.

      Note:

      The Create as a local profile checkbox is available at the Global, Site Collections, Sites, Devices, and Device Groups levels. It is not available at the Library level.

    • Name—Enter the name of the DHCP Pool profile.

    • Description—Enter the description for the DHCP Pool profile.

    • Select IP Version—Select one of the following IP versions:

      • IPv4

      • IPv6

    • Prefix Length—Specify the number of bits in the address mask in CIDR format (x), where x is a decimal number from 0 to 32.

      Note:

      When configuring a DHCP server in HPE Aruba Networking Central WebUI, it is mandatory to specify the Prefix Length parameter. However, when configuring AOS-CX switches using APIs, the Prefix Length field is optional.

    • Range—Select the range of IPv4/IPv6 Address range. To configure a range, click + and specify the following:

      • Start IP— Enter the start range of the IPv4/IPv6 Address.

      • End IP— Enter the end range of the IPv4/IPv6 Address.

      • Add — Click to add the range.

  7. CX Only—Specify the checkbox to specify other Start IP, End IP, and Prefix.

  8. DNS Server—Specify a DNS Server IP Address.

  9. DDNS—Select a DDNS profile from the drop-down list.

  10. Domain Name— Enter a Domain Name.

  11. NetBIOS Server— Enter a NetBIOS Server IP Address.

  12. Default Router— Enter a Default Router IP Address.

  13. Lease Time— Specify a lease time in Days, Hours, Minutes, and Seconds, as needed.

  14. Options— To configure other options, click + and specify the following:

    1. Options Code— Select an Options Code from the drop-down list.

    2. Type— Select between IP, ASCII, and HEX.

    3. Value— Specify a value in the respective formats as chosen in Type above.

    4. Add— Click to add Options Code to the profile.

  15. IP Reservation—To configure additional options, click + and specify the following:

    1. Client Name— Enter a Client Name.

    2. IP Address— Specify an IP Address.

    3. MAC Address— Specify a MAC Address.

    4. Add— Click to add IP Reservation to the profile.

  16. Enable PXE— Select this optional checkbox. If selected, the following options are available:

    1. Server Name— Specify a server name.

    2. Next Server— Enter the IP Address of the Next Server.

    3. Boot File— Specify a Boot File name.

  17. Device Service Parameters— Select this checkbox if needed. If selected, the following options are available:

    1. DNS— Select between Use specified DNS Server in the profile, Use Device address, or Import from DHCP.

    2. Gateway-Specific Parameters— If selected, then the Send Vendor Class Identifier to Clients checkbox is now available.

  18. Click Create to create a DHCP Pool profile.

Assigning Scope to a DHCP Pool Profile

You must assign a scope and device function to a DHCP Pool profile created in the Library.

To assign scope to a DHCP pool profile, complete the following steps:

  1. In the HPE Aruba Networking Central landing page, click the configurationicon.

    The Profiles tab is displayed.

  2. Ensure that the default option Library is selected in the left navigation menu.

  3. On the Network Services card, click DHCP Server.

    Alternatively, you can complete the following steps:

    1. On the Network Services card, click Manage.

    2. On the DHCP Pool card, click Manage.

    The DHCP Pool list view is displayed.

  4. Hover on the profile to which you want to assign a scope and click the Ellipsis icon.

  5. Select Assign.

    The Assign Profile side panel is displayed.

  6. Select the device types from Device Function list.

  7. To add a scope, click the Add icon on the Scopes table.

  8. Select a scope from the following Scope Level options in the drop-down list.

    • Global—Selecting this option assigns the scope at the Global level.

    • Site Collections—Select the site collections from the Assign to Scope drop-down list.

    • Sites—Select the sites from the Assign to Scope drop-down list.

    • Devices—Select the devices from the Assign to Scope drop-down list.

    • Device Groups—Select the device groups from the Assign to Scope drop-down list.

  9. Click Add.

    The Scopes table displays the newly added scopes.

  10. Click Assign.

    The DHCP Server list displays the device functions and number of scopes assigned to the profile.

  11. To unassign a scope from a profile, complete the following steps:

    1. Hover on the profile name and click the Ellipsis icon.

    2. Select Unassign.

    3. Select the required scope and click Unassign.

  12. To customize the DHCP Server profile list, click the Customize Columns icon.
