Monitoring Application Services in a Global Context

The Global Menu page serves as a centralized dashboard for monitoring and optimizing network infrastructure across all the sites.

To monitor the Application Services in a global context, complete the following steps:

  1. On the HPE Aruba Networking Central landing page, click the Network Monitoring icon on the top-right corner.

  2. Click Applications.

    The Applications dashboard is displayed.

The Applications table provides the following information.

Only the following columns apply to Application Services.

Column

Description

Name

Displays the application name.

Category

Displays the application category.

The various categories supported are as follows:

  • Service Discovery—Used to identify and locate services available on a network. All Application Services server are included in this category.

  • Screen Mirroring—Allows a device to duplicate its screen onto another display. For example, AirPlay and Google Cast.

  • Media Streaming—Used for streaming audio or video content from one device to another. For example, AmazonTV and DLNA.

  • Media Print—Supports services related to media handling and network-based printing. For example, AirPrint and DLNA Print

  • Discovery—Used to discover and launch applications on devices. For example, DIAL.

  • Custom—User-defined services.

Application Type

Displays the application and website type.

The following list displays the application types:

  • Public—Indicates that all IP address used by the application is public IPv4/IPv6 address. Example: IP address - 3.2.1.1.

  • Private—Indicates that all IP address used by the application is private IPv4/IPv6 address. Example: IP address - 192.168.1.1.

  • Hybrid—Indicates that the IP address used by the application includes both public and private IP address.

  • Unknown—Indicates that the destination IP is unknown or invalid.

Last Used

Displays when this application was last active.

  • Now—The application was active within the last fifteen minutes.

  • Timestamp—Display the timestamp when the application was last active.

Role

Displays a list of roles of clients accessing the application. The list is sorted alphabetically. The Role is accessible at the Site level as well as the Client level.

Geo Location

Displays the list of country names based on the destination IP address of the application or website. The country names are sorted alphabetically when the application has multiple countries listed.

Time Range

On the Applications dashboard, the Time Range allows you to view and analyze historical data of applications.

You can change the time range by selecting one of the following options from the Time Range drop-down list:

  • Last 3 hours

  • Last 1 day

  • Last 7 days

Search Bar

In the Applications page, you can enter keywords in the search bar to find a specific application from the Applications table.

Additionally, you can use the quick filters to filter applications based on Type and Application State. To filter applications by Type, you can choose either Applications, Websites, or select both options. To filter applications by Application State, you can choose either Active, Inactive, or select both options.

Note:

The search is supported only for the application Name column.

Filters

In the Applications page, click the filter icon to view the Filters pop-up window that allows you to filter applications based on Application Type, Category, and Role. Under Category, select the Service Discovery check box to filter only services listed under Application Services.

To remove the filters from the Filters pop-up window, click Clear and then click Apply. Additionally, you can click Clear Filters in the Applications page to remove the filters.

Table Utilities

You can sort, customize the column visibility, and adjust the width of the columns displayed in the table, as required.

  • To sort a column either in ascending or descending, complete the following steps:

    1. Click the column name that you wish to sort.

    2. Perform either of the following:

      • To sort in ascending order, click the up arrow icon.

      • To sort in descending order, click the down arrow icon.

  • To adjust the width of the columns, complete the following steps:

    1. Hover over the left or right edge of the column that you want to adjust.

      You can identify the edge of the column when the mouse pointer changes to the adjust shape.

    2. Click and drag the edge to adjust the width of the column.

  • To customize columns, reset column sizes, and export table data, complete the following steps:

    1. Click the Table Menu icon.

      The Actions menu is displayed.

    2. Click Customize Columns.

      The Customize Columns pop-up window is displayed.

      1. Complete either or both of the following steps as required:

        • Select the column names to enable or disable the visibility of that column in the table.

        • Click and hold the action icon next to the column you wish to move, and drag it to a new position.

        • Click Apply.

        • Click Reset to Defaults to clear the column visibility settings.

      2. Click Reset Column Sizes to reset the column widths.

      3. Click Export to export the Applications table data.
