Classification Rules

Classification rules define the criteria for categorizing clients. You can create custom classification rules by using the global options available on the New Central home page.

Before Creating and Applying Classification Rules

• You can choose either to apply the created rule to all matching clients at the tenant level using attributes such as DHCP options 50 and 60, hostname, and manufacturer, or to specific devices using MAC address and attributes.

• If you choose to apply the rule to a specific device, you must manually key in the MAC address of the device in the MAC Address box. This field is mandatory. If you use this method, you can use only one MAC address for a custom classification rule.

• Currently, New Central does not support error checking for the MAC Address box. If you key in an incorrect MAC address, or use the wrong format for the MAC address, the you can still create the rule but it does not match with any client.

• Along with MAC address, you can also use the Attributes box to identify clients to associate with the custom classification rule. This field is not mandatory. You can choose to apply your custom classification rule to a specific device by keying in the MAC address of the device in the MAC Address box, but leave the Attributes box blank. However, if you want to identify a client by its attribute, you cannot use an incorrect attribute value.
