Creating a Network Service Alias

A network service alias defines a TCP, UDP, or IP protocol and a list or range of ports supported by that service. You can create a default or custom network service alias that is used in policies.

To create a custom network service alias, complete the following steps:

1. In the Service/Application drop-down list, select New Service.

2. Configure the following parameters:

   • Name—Enter a name of the service alias.

     The alias name must be between 1 and 63 characters in length, and can include numbers and lowercase letters.

   • Description—Enter a description of the service alias.

     The description can include a maximum of 128 characters including letters, numbers, and special characters.

   • Attributes Protocol—Select one of the following radio buttons:

     • TCP

     • UDP

     • Protocol Number

   • Ports—Enter a single port, a dash-separated list of port numbers, or a comma-separated list of port numbers.

     Note:

     This parameter is applicable only when you select TCP or UDP from the Attributes Protocol list.

   • Protocol Number—Enter IP protocol number for which you want to create an alias.

     Note:

     This parameter is applicable only when you select Protocol Number from the Attributes Protocol list.

   • Restrict to following application (ALG)—To limit the service alias to a specific application, select one of the following service types from the Application Level Gateway (ALG) drop-down list:

     • ICMP

     • DNS

     • FTP

     • SUNRPC

     • MSRPC

     • TFTP

     • RTSP

     • LCMPV6

3. Click Create.

   The new network service alias is added to the Services table.
