Firmware Management

The Firmware Management feature in HPE Aruba Networking Central supports the monitoring and management of firmware policies. A firmware policy is a defined set of rules that specify how and when firmware upgrades are applied to devices, based on device type and function. The devices include APs, switches, and gateways. Each firmware policy includes upgrade parameters such as the target firmware version, applicable scope (such as sites or device groups), upgrade type (standard or live), scheduling options, and optional overrides.

From a dedicated Firmware Management page in HPE Aruba Networking Central, you can create or edit firmware policies, monitor firmware status, apply version upgrades, and manage firmware settings across various scopes. This approach ensures that the devices stay compliant and up to date with recommended versions, while minimizing downtime using flexible upgrade options.

Important Points About Firmware Management Availability

• To ensure seamless upgrades in HPE Aruba Networking Central, users must remove any existing Global or Group-level firmware compliance settings for the relevant HPE Aruba Networking Central-enabled Group (labeled New Central in the WebUI) in Classic Central.

• Firmware policy creation is supported at multiple scopes:

  • Global

  • Site Collections

  • Sites

  • Devices

  • Device Groups

• When a firmware policy is created at any of these scopes, it is applied only to devices that are part of the HPE Aruba Networking Central-enabled Group (labeled New Central in the WebUI). For instance, if a firmware policy is created for a site, it gets pushed to all relevant devices in the site that belongs to the Group.

• All devices managed under an account are visible during device-level firmware policy creation. However, only devices within the HPE Aruba Networking Central group are eligible for firmware upgrades.
