Client Details

You can view the connected clients and the client roaming events associated with each device on the floorplan. Based on the health of the clients the color of the client icon is represented on the floorplan:

  • Green—Good

  • Orange—Fair

  • Red—Poor

  • Grey—Unknown

The location of a client is calculated through the Location Engine service. When the service is unable to locate the client location on the floorplan, the client location falls back to the associated AP location.

When the client location is not accurate an error message is displayed in the client tooltip, The client’s position has been approximated because there wasn’t enough data for precise positioning.

Hover over the client icon to display a tool tip. The tool tip shows the status of the client and the device name or MAC address of the device to which the client is connected to.

Click on the client icon to view client details. A side panel appears with the following information:

  • Client Name—Name of the client.

  • IP Address—IP address of the client.

  • MAC Address—MAC address of the client.

  • Manufacturer—Manufacturer of the device that the client is connected to.

  • GPS Coordinates—GPS coordinate of the floorplan while scaling the floor.

  • Connectivity

    • Connected To—MAC address of the device that the client is connected to.

    • Connected Since—Timestamp since the client is connected to the device.

    • Band—Radio band for the roam.

    • Channel—Displays the channels from source to destination AP.

    • Signal Quality—Signal quality of the network.

    • Wireless Security—Security level of the network.

  • Classification

    • Category—Category assigned to the client.

    • Function—Function type of the client.

    • Vendor—The name of the vendor.

    • Model/OS—Model number of the device and the OS running.

  • Alerts—Number of alerts associated to the client.

To find more details about the client, click the Go To Client button on the side panel. This navigates to the Unified Device List page.

To view the client roaming information, click the View Roaming Events on the side panel. This navigates to a different page where you can see the roaming events that a specific client had in the network.

Client Roaming Events

The client roaming event displays information about the client’s network transition between access points. It represents changes in network connectivity, not the client’s physical movement.

Click the play button beside the sliding bar to start viewing the client’s roaming events. The video displays the client’s roaming activity using rhombus-shaped icons. If multiple roaming events occur, several rombus icons appear, connected to illustrate the client’s network movement from one point to another. The video shows a track representing the client’s transition between access points (APs) based on the selected time range. You can play or pause the video using the button.

You can also click on the rombus icon to view further details. A side panel is displayed with the following information:

  • Roam Info—Date and time of the roaming event.

  • Source Access Point—IP address of the source access point for the selected rombus point.

  • Destination Access Point—IP address of the source access point for the selected rombus point.

  • Time—Time of the roaming event.

  • Channel—The channel in which the roam happened.

  • Level—The quality of roaming event.

  • Roam Technology—The roaming technology of the client while moving from one AP to another.

  • Client Health—The health of the client.

  • Client Status—The client status on the network.

The roaming point is calculated based on the client trilateration value. The trilateration value is more accurate when the client is seen by larger number of APs on the floor. The location is more precise and accurate in that case. If the client is seen by less than three APs on the floor, the client location is approximately calculated and the exact position of the client is not displayed.

The connection of the client with the source AP is represented in dotted line whereas, the connection to the destination AP is represented in solid line. At times the source and the destination connection lines might not be visible. It depends on the client services based on which the floorplan displays it. Also, if the client sits under the source AP or the destination AP, then either of the connection line might not be visible.

To get more precision of the client location, the AP should be configured in certain way. For more information, see Design and Deployment Consideration.

By default, the roaming data is displayed for 30 minutes. Click the drop-down menu to select the time range for which you want to see the client roaming events data:

  • Last 30 Minutes

  • Last 1 Hours

  • Last 3 Hours

Custom Option

Apart from the fixed time frames, you can also select custom range for which you want to see the client roaming events data. Click the Custom Option from the drop-down list, the Timeframe Selection dialog box appears. By default it displays 30 minutes data. You can customize the date and the time, by selecting From and To in the dialog box. You can access roaming data of maximum 3 hour intervals for the past 7 days. Click Apply to view the data on the floorplan or click Reset to set the custom range again as required.

All the roaming information is recorded and displayed under in the Roaming card on the Client dashboard. For more information, see Client-Specific Roaming Card

If the client network has roamed across multiple buildings then the following screen is displayed.

You can navigate to the specific building and the particular floor on that building and select the custom time range to view the roam event data.

Roaming Legends

You can refer to the Roaming Legend panel for the icons displayed on the floor:

  • Client Path

  • Roam Occurrence

  • Destination AP Link

  • Source AP Link

Limitation

Currently, the starting point and end of the client roaming event is not known.

To narrow down information on the floorplan dashboard, you can filter the attributes displayed. Click the stack icon to display the Layers panel. Here you can deselect the attribute which you do not want to display on the floorplan. By default, all the attributes are selected:

Note:

The attributes of the Layers panel is static which means that if you navigate to any other screen and come back again to the Layer panel, all the attributes get selected by default again.

Within a floorplan, you can click on an AP or a client to view the associated lines. An associated line is a dotted line that connects an AP to its connected client(s) or a client to its associated AP. The color of the dotted line represents the health of the client.
