Importing Floors

Administrators can import floorplans backup file from different applications such as, Classic Central, AirWave, Ekahau, and Hamina. After importing a floorplan backup file for any site, network administrators can view all the attributes including device location, walls, and zones with respect to the imported floormap. Note:

  • Import floorplan can be done only at the site context.

  • While importing floorplans, one decimal floor number is supported. For example, 1.2, 2.1, or 4.2.

  • If you want to import a floorplan backup file, you must first export the file from the respective application.

  • The devices that need to be assigned to the imported floor should be assigned to the site, but not to any floor in the site.

  • While importing a floorplan from any other application, if the imported AP is not available in the current HPE Aruba Networking Central site, that AP is converted into a planned AP instead of real AP. If the AP is present in the HPE Aruba Networking Central site then, it will be automatically assigned and deployed to the floorplan as a real time AP to the respective location.

  • When you assign an AP to a site which has the same name or same MAC address of a planned AP in HPE Aruba Networking Central, the planned AP is converted into a real time AP.

  • If a non-Aruba device is imported while floorplan import, it is converted into a Aruba device and can be seen in the Audit Trail page. For more information, see Audit Trail.

To import a floorplan, complete the following steps:

  1. In the HPE Aruba Networking Central landing page, select a site from the Sites menu.

    Alternatively, you can click the expand icon on the Sites menu to search for a site from the list.

    The site dashboard is displayed with the network and connectivity information for the site.

    The HPE Aruba Networking Central page is set to the selected site context.

  1. From the Actions drop-down list, select Import Floors.

    The Import Floors page is displayed.

  2. Click Select File and browse in your system to upload the import floorplan file.

  3. Click Next.

    The import process takes time based on the size of the uploaded file. After the import is complete, you can see all the attributes of the imported floorplan.

  4. Optionally, can modify the properties of the floor that you are importing.

    1. Click the Building Name drop-down list and select Create Building.
      The Create Building page where you can change the building name and the type of the building from the respective drop-down list. You can perform all the steps like search sites, move buildings, move floors similar to a newly created building. For more information, see Creating Initial Floor and Building.

    2. Enter the new floor number, floor name, and the ceiling height.

    3. Click Finish.

    The Upload Floor Plan Information section displays the following information:

    Data Pane

    Description

    Building Name

    The building name of the imported floorplan.

    For floorplans imported from Classic Central, the site name is displayed as the building name. You can edit the building name by clicking the drop-down list and selecting Create Building.

    Floor Number

    Floor number imported from each building.

    Floor Name

    Floor name imported from each building.

    Ceiling Height(Meters)

    Ceiling height of each floor.

    You can edit the ceiling height based on your requirement. If the ceiling height displays three-digit unit, you must update it to two-digit unit as HPE Aruba Networking Central does not support three-digit ceiling height unit.

    Scale Method

    Scaling method used while creating each floor.

    It is recommended not to scale the imported floorplans as it might result in incorrect location for devices, walls, and zones.

    Navigate back to the site context to see the newly imported building. If the devices matched with the imported floorplan, the devices are assigned and deployed on the floor. You can navigate to each floor by double clicking on the floor cards to see the floorplan attributes.

Limitations While Importing a Floorplan

  • Currently, editing any row data will not be saved if you click the Finish button. You have to press enter or select another row to save the changes made.

  • By default, the first row is editable, and after creating a new building for the first time in the first row, you must select the newly created building from the drop-down manually. This behavior is same for all the subsequent rows present.

  • Intermittently, you might see a button View Selection in the building drop-down.

  • For AirWave users, multi-campus import is not supported. You must export each campus individually, and then import it to HPE Aruba Networking Central.

  • You can import a floorplan, only if the floorplan file size is less than < 250 MB.
