Layers Panel

The Layers panel is visible when you are at the floorplan context. The Layers panel enables you to filter the information of the floorplan. Click the icon to expand the Layers panel. Along with the Layers icon you can see the signal strength and its range represented in legends that defines the signal strength present in the selected floor. It is indicated in the following colors:

The range defined for the signal strength in the network ranges between:

• Excellent: 0dBm through -55dBm

• Good: -55dBm through -67dBm

• Fair: -67dBm through -75dBm

• Poor: -75dBm through -90dBm

To filter the information on the floorplan, expand the Layers panel. Click the drop-down list to select the type of information that you want to see:

• Heatmap: The Heatmap Information drop-down list has the following three options:

  • None— If you select None, the floorplan does not display any heatmap information.

  • Signal Strength—Select this option to display signal strength based on the bandwidth available on the selected floor. The following filters are made available:

    • Band—Use this filter to view APs operating in the 2.4 GHz, 5 GHZ, or 6 GHz channels.

    • Signal Bleed-Through—Use this filter to view signal availability from APs on the floors directly below or above the selected floor.

    • Signal Cutoff—Use the slide bar to set the coverage area of the signal strength as excellent, good, fair, and poor on the selected floor.

  • Channel Occupancy—This option enables you to avoid any kind of channel collision between two nearby APs on the floor. Each AP on the floorplan has its own channel in respect to their bands such as, 2.4 GHz has some allocated channel occupancy whereas, 6 GHz band will has some other allocated channel occupancy. If two APs share the same channel on the floorplan, an overlap area occurs. Selecting the options available within this drop-down list, enables you to know if there is channel overlap and accordingly allows you to fix the overlapping areas by either moving the channels or by changing the channel numbers. You can view the channels based, band, signal cutoff, and the type of APs available on the floor by selected the filters from the respective drop-down list.

    When you select Channel Occupancy from the Heatmap drop-down list, few fields become visible on the Layers panel:

    • Channel Width—This displays the bandwidth that the wireless channel occupies on the floorplan.

    • Channel Overlap—This option displays if there is channel overlap on the floorplan based on your selection.

    • Visible Channels—This displays the available channels present for each deployed on the floorplan. You can deselect the channels from the list if you do not want to display them on the floorplan. Each channel is represented in different color. You can either click Select All to select all the channels at a go or, you can select each channel based on your requirement.

      Note:

      Visible channels only display the channel numbers that are available for an AP. It does not display all the channels of the selected band.

• Signal Cutoff: This slide bar displays coverage area of the signal strength as excellent, good, fair, and poor on the selected floor. The slide bar ranges from -45dBM through -90dBM. You can use the slider option to select any incremental value to display the signal strength. There are no pre-defined values.

• Monochromatic: Select the Monochromatic check-box, if you want to display the signal strength and the coverage area in lesser color intensity on the floorplan.

• Access Points: You can also filter the floorplan heatmap based on the list of Access Points type, Deployed Access Points, and Planned Access Points. Here you can deselect the specific option that you do not want to display on the floorplan. When you deselect an option, the APs are not removed from the floorplan, only the associated heatmap representation is removed from the floorplan. By default, both the options are selected.

• Additional Information: The Show Overlay Objects pane has multiple options available which you can deselect if you do not want to display that specific attribute on the floorplan. By default, all the attributes are selected.
