Connectivity Performance

The Connectivity Performance card provides a quick summary of the selected AP's overall performance, such as Usage, Connected Clients, Channel Quality, and so on.

The following table lists the Connectivity Performance card parameters.

Parameter

Description

Indicates that the AP connectivity performance is good.

For more information on the health status and reason, see AP Health Computation.

Indicates that the AP connectivity performance is fair. The reason for fair connectivity is displayed next to this icon. For more information on the health status and reason, see AP Health Computation. Further clicking the health reason takes you to the specific Alerts page. Clicking Show All takes you to the Alerts page showing all the alerts generated for that particular AP. For more information see Viewing Alert-Specific Information in List View

Indicates that the AP connectivity performance is poor. The reason for poor connectivity is displayed next to this icon. For more information on the health status and reason, see AP Health Computation. Further clicking the health reason takes you to the specific Alerts page. Clicking Show All takes you to the Alerts page showing all the alerts generated for that particular AP. For more information see Viewing Alert-Specific Information in List View

Indicates that the AP is offline.

Uplink Throughput

Displays the data transmitted through the uplink of the AP at the selected time.

Usage

Cumulative data bytes transferred and received by this device over the current monitoring window.

Connected Clients

Number of clients currently connected to the AP.

Channel Quality

Channel quality level for each Wi-Fi radio of the selected access point.

To view the connectivity performance graphs of the AP for interface types and radio, click the expand icon.

The expanded Connectivity Performance card displays the following graphs:

  • Interface Types—Displays the throughput and connected clients data for wired and wireless interface types.

    • Throughput—Displays the size of data sent to and received by the device for the wired or wireless interfaces. By default, the throughput area chart is displayed for all the wireless interfaces of the AP device.

      To view the chart for a specific WLAN or radio, select an SSID or radio frequency band from the Wireless Interface drop-down list. You can hover over the graph to view the transmitted and received data at a specific time.

      To view the upstream and downstream data throughput chart for all the ports on this access point, click the Wired tab. By default, the data is displayed for all the ports on this access point.

      To view the chart for a specific port, select the port from the Wired Interface drop-down list. You can hover over the graph to view the transmitted and received data at a specific time.

    • Connected Clients—Displays the line chart with number of clients connected to the selected interface type of the access point. By default, the graph displays the count of the wireless clients connected to the AP. To view the count of wired clients connected to the AP, click the Wired tab. You can hover over the graph to view the number of clients connected to the access point at a specific time.

  • Note:

    The Wireless Interface drop-down list only displays access mode radios and WLANs.

  • Radio—Displays graphs to analyze the health status for radio 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz Lower Band, 5 GHz Upper Band, and 6 GHz of the access point over time. You can hover over each of the graphs to view the data specific to that point in the timeline.

    • Channel Utilization—Indicates the percentage of total channel utilization on each radio of the AP and is categorized as follows:

      • Transmitting—The percentage of the channel used for transmitting data.

      • Receiving—The percentage of the channel used for receiving data.

      • Non-Wi-Fi interference—The percentage of the channel used by the non Wi-Fi interferers.

      The status of channel utilization is based on the following threshold conditions:

      • —Indicates good health if the non-Wi-Fi interference is less than equal to 50%.

      • —Indicates fair health if the non-Wi-Fi interference is greater than 50% and less than equal to 84%.

      • —Indicates poor health if the non-Wi-Fi interference is greater than 85% and less than equal to 100%.

      The following graph displays the channel utilization graph for the 2.4 GHz radio channel.

    • Channel Quality—Indicates the qualitative channel quality score for selected radio of the AP device. The status of channel quality is based on the following threshold conditions:

      • —Indicates good health if the channel quality is greater than 70%.

      • —Indicates fair health if the channel quality is greater than 40% and less than equal to 70%.

      • —Indicates poor health if the channel quality is less than or equal to 40%.

      Channel quality is measured based on the following metrics:

      • Noise floor

      • Retry rate

      • Non-WiFi utilization

      If the noise floor is significantly high (>-53dBm), then the quality is set to zero (poor). The higher the interference, the lower the quality.

      Note:

      If the channel quality is below 70% and is consistently bad for 30 secs, then ARM'S Channel-Qualtiy-error changes the channel.

  • Noise Floor—Indicates the noise floor level detected on each radio of the AP.

    The status of the noise floor level detected on each radio is based on the following threshold conditions:

    • —Indicates good health if the noise floor level is less than -87 dBm.

    • —Indicates fair health if the noise floor level is greater than or equal to -80 dBm.

    • —Indicates poor health if the noise floor level is in the range of -81 dBm to -87 dBm.

  • Frames—Indicates the trend of frames transmitted through each radio of the AP. The graph displays the status of data frames categorized as Drops, and Retries, in a wireless and wired network.

    Note:

    Frame retries and drops charts are supported for firmware version 10.4.1.8, 10.7.2 and later.

    The status of the frame tries on each radio is based on the following threshold conditions:

    • —Indicates good health if the frame retires are lest than 20%.

    • —Indicates fair health if the frame retires are greater than 20% and less than equal to 70%.

    • —Indicates poor health if the frame retires are greater than 70%.

    The status of the frame drops on each radio is based on the following threshold conditions:

    • —Indicates good health if the frame drops are lest than 5%.

    • —Indicates fair health if the frame drops are greater than 5% and less than equal to 50%.

    • —Indicates poor health if the frame drops are greater than 50%.

  • In the expanded view of the Connectivity Performance card, you can go back up to a time range of 30 days to view the metrics on throughput, channel utilization, channel quality, noise floor, and frames.

  • For Wired interfaces, the frames graph displays the frame Errors, Drops, and Retries in percentage along with the absolute value in parenthesis.
