AP Health Computation

The AP device and connectivity performance health are calculated based on the following considerations:

  • Severity of the alert generated for the AP device

  • Priority of the health metric for which the alert is generated

The following table describes the alert severity and health status mapping:

Note: If there is no alert generated for an AP device, then the health is always displayed as Good.

The AP health metrics are prioritized as follows, from highest to lowest:

  1. Device

    1. All radios are disabled

    2. All tunnels are down

    3. Radio failure

    4. AP tunnel down

    5. AP process failure

    6. AP rebooted

    7. Wi-Fi Easy Connect DoS Attack

  2. Hardware

    1. CPU utilization

    2. Memory utilization

    3. Insufficient PoE Received

  3. Radio

    1. Noise floor

    2. Channel utilization

    3. Channel quality

    4. Frame drops

    5. Frame retries

    6. Channel changes

    7. Transmit power changes

    8. Non-Wi-Fi interference

  4. Port stats

    1. Uplink interface down

    2. Downlink interface down

    3. Uplink packet drops

    4. Uplink CRC errors

    5. Uplink collision errors

    6. Downlink packet drops

    7. Downlink CRC errors

    8. Downlink collision errors

    For example, device KPIs hold higher precedence over hardware, radio, and so on.

For example, if an AP device triggers a critical noise floor alert and also a major CPU utilization alert, the overall health status of the AP device is computed as poor based on the alert severity.

In this case, though the CPU health metric holds higher precedence over the noise floor as per the device health priority, the overall AP health status is computed as poor based on alert severity (critical precedence over major) and its corresponding health text (degraded noise floor) is indicated as the health reason.
