Wired Interfaces

The Wired Interfaces card provides a high-level representation of the device faceplate that lists the details of the ports on the AP such as the port number, neighbor type information, and the PoE status layer details.

The expanded card displays the following additional information:

  • Ports Summary on the left displays the count of ports and uplinks based on connection status.

  • The AP faceplate indicates the status of each port. The dotted line of a port indicates an uplink.

  • Hovering on each port interface in the AP faceplate displays the port status, Speed/Duplex, Neighbor, Link details.

  • Hovering on Hardware Status displays the health status of each metric such as CPU, Memory, and Temperature.

  • Legend on the right indicates the colors used in the faceplate for each connection status.

  • Note:

    Connected = Both Admin and Operation States are Up.

    Disabled = Admin State is Down irrespective of Operation State.

    Not Connected = Admin State is Up and Operation State is Down.

    • List view of the port parameters.

    The following table lists the Wired Interfaces card parameters.

    Parameter

    Description

    Port

    Displays the name of the port along with connection status as one of the following:

    • Disabled

    • Connected

    • Not connected

    • Error - <port error>

      Where, port error is the wired interfaces alert and is prioritized as follows, from highest to lowest:

      1. Uplink packet drops

      2. Uplink CRC errors

      3. Uplink collision errors

      4. Downlink packet drops

      5. Downlink CRC errors

      6. Downlink collision errors

    Note: Only critical alerts are displayed as the error reason for a port. If a port has multiple alerts, then only one critical alert with higher precedence is displayed as the error reason. For example, if a port has both uplink CRC and collision error alerts as critical, then uplink CRC errors alert is displayed as the error reason.

    Connector

    Indicates the connector used to connect to the device as one of the following:

    • RJ45

    • USB

    Speed/Duplex

    Displays the effective negotiated speed and directionality of communication over the network link or port.

    If a port is configured for auto-negotiation, this value is effective speed and duplex mode. The link speed is in bps and duplex mode is one of the following:

    • Full

    • Half

    Neighbor

    Displays the connected uplink details along with device health or client experience of the neighbor. You can click the device to view the device dashboard.

    Neighbor Classification

    Displays the type of device connected as neighbor.

    Port Mode

    Indicates the configuration mode of the port as one of the following:

    • Access

    • Trunk

    VLAN

    Displays one of the following based on the Port Mode:

    • VLAN ID—If the VLAN configuration mode is Access.

    • Native and Allowed VLAN ID—If the VLAN configuration mode is Trunk. The allowed VLAN IDs are comma-separated when they are non-consecutive and separated by a hyphen when they are a consecutive series.

    MAC Address

    Displays the MAC address of the port.

    You can perform the following actions in the expanded Wired Interfaces card:

    • To view the details of the port in the side panel, click the port name in the list or the port interface in the AP faceplate.

      The side panel is displayed with the connection status and the port details such as Neighbor, Speed/Duplex, VLAN information, and Usage trend chart. For more information on usage chart, see Usage.

    • To customize the columns in the list, see Viewing Clients in List View.

    • To export the table data in CSV format, click Table Menu > Export.

    • To search for a specific port, type the keywords such as the port name, connector type, speed, or the connected device name. The search displays dynamic results as soon as you start typing.

    • To display the neighbor type information on the AP faceplate and the associated legend, click the Select information to Display drop-down and select Neighbor Type.

    Usage

    The Usage trend graph displays the aggregated value of transmitted and received data on the selected port for the time duration selected in the timeline. By default, the graph displays the data for the last 3 hours.

    To view additional graphs, click the expand icon.

    The expanded view displays the following graphs:

    • Throughput—Displays the size of data sent to and received by the selected port. You can hover over the graph to view the transmitted and received data at a specific time.

    • Connected Clients—Displays the line chart with number of clients connected to the selected port of the access point. You can hover over the graph to view the number of clients connected to the access point at a specific time.

    • Frames—Indicates the trend of frames transmitted through the selected port of the AP for the time period selected in the timeline. The graph displays the status of data frames categorized as Errors or Drops, in a wired network. To view the detailed view of the frames graph, click Show Frames Details.       The Frames Details view displays the following information on the types of errors:

      • CRC/FCS—Displays the trend of Cyclic Redundancy Check (CRC) or Frame Check Sequence (FCS) errors in the data frame. These errors indicate that the data was corrupted during transmission.

      • Collisions—Displays the trend of failed packet transmissions due to collisions.

    Note: The Frames graph is supported only for APs running AOS-8.12.0.0 or AOS-10.7.0.0 and later versions.
