Wired Interfaces

The Wired Interfaces card displays the switch faceplate with information about the ports in the switch.

Note:

The Wired Interfaces card is displayed only when the device is online.

For AOS-CX switches, the card displays the RJ45 and QSFP ports as separate port groups. The port number and port status are the only information available for ports that are disabled and not connected. You can hover over any port to view the following information:

  • Port number

  • Port status and port type. Listed below are the supported values:

    • —Connected

    • —Error

    • —Disabled

    • —Not Connected

    • —Uplink

    • —Delivering POE

    • —Critical

    • —Inter-Switch Link or VSF Link

  • Speed / Duplex—Indicates the supported port speed. Listed below are the supported duplex values:

    • Full

    • Half

  • PoE Status—Indicates the PoE status of the port. Listed below are the supported values:

    • Delivering

    • Not Used

    • Disabled

    • Denied

  • Connected To—Displayed only when the port is connected to a client or another device. Only the devices that are in the same site are displayed. Listed below are the supported values:

    • Switch

    • Wired client

    • Access Point

    • Gateway

    • UXI Sensor

    • Unmanaged

  • Link Aggregations—Displays the LAG name only when the port is part of a LAG. The LAG interface name is suffixed with the type of the LAG interface. MC is displayed for an MC LAG and ISL is displayed for an ISL LAG.

  • Link type—Displays the type of link if the port is part of an inter-switch link, or is an uplink port. Supported types are Inter-switch and Uplink.

  • Neighbor—Displays the device name or client name that the port is connected to.

  • Neighbor Role—Displays the role of the neighbor.

  • Modules—Displays the modules for the chassis model switch. For an AOS-S switch, after onboarding, the insertion and removal of modules are not displayed in the faceplate.

  • STP State—Displays the Spanning Tree Protocol (STP) state of the port if STP is configured on the switch. The possible values are:

    • Forwarding—The Layer 2 LAN port forwards frames.

    • Learning—The Layer 2 LAN port prepares to participate in frame forwarding.

    • Blocking—The Layer 2 LAN port does not participate in frame forwarding.

    • Disabled—The Layer 2 LAN port does not participate in STP and is not forwarding frames.

    • Inconsistent—Inconsistency is observed on the Layer 2 LAN port.

  • STP role—Displays the STP role of the port. The possible values are:

    • Root—Provides the best path (lowest cost) when the switch forwards packets to the root bridge.

    • Designated—Connects to the designated switch, which incurs the lowest path cost when forwarding packets from that LAN to the root bridge. The port through which the designated switch is attached to the LAN is called the designated port.

    • Alternate—Offers an alternate path towards the root bridge to the one provided by the current root port.

    • Backup—Acts as a backup for the path provided by a designated port towards the leaves of the spanning tree.

    • Disabled—No role within the operation of the spanning tree.

  • Root bridge—Displays the host name of the root bridge on the faceplate when the root bridge device is onboarded to New Central. A root bridge is the central switch in STP. All other switches use it as a reference to calculate the shortest path to each segment of the network. You can click on the host name to view the device dashboard of the root bridge. If the root bridge device is not onboarded to HPE Aruba Networking Central, then the MAC address of the root bridge is displayed. In this scenario, you cannot click on the MAC address. The root bridge is displayed in the faceplate if you select STP from the Select Information to Display drop-down.

You can select the type of information to be displayed in the faceplate by selecting an option from the Select Information to Display drop-down list.

The following types of information are displayed:

  • Neighbor Type—The faceplate displays the type of neighbor connected to the port.

  • VLAN—The faceplate displays the VLAN mode of the ports. By selecting the VLAN ID, the faceplate displays only the ports that are assigned to the selected VLAN. The supported values are Access, Applied, Trunk Native and Trunk Allowed.

  • Link Aggregations—The faceplate displays the LAG ID within the ports that are part of a LAG.

  • PoE Usage—The faceplate displays the PoE consumption for the ports. This value is displayed in Watts.

  • Usage—The faceplate displays the overview of ports usage versus port speed.

  • STP—The faceplate displays the STP port state. In addition, you can hover over the ports to view the STP role.

Hover over each port listed to see the Troubleshooter and Options (...) icons on the right.

Select the troubleshooter icon against each connected port to run diagnostic tests on the port. For more information on how to run the tests, see Tests under Troubleshooting Tools.

Click the options icon to:

  • Mark as Critical- Mark the selected port as critical to receive an alert if the critical port goes down. For more information, see Critical Port Down alert in Switch Alerts. Examples of ports that may be marked as critical include:

    • Ports connected to POS terminal device

    • Ports connected to a critical server

    • Uplink ports

    • Ports connected to the Ethernet interface of a critical IoT devices

    Once marked, a star icon will then appear on the port in the faceplate. If you want to remove the critical designation for a port, select the Unmark as Critical option.

  • Run Cable Test

  • Run PoE Bounce

  • Run Port Bounce

The Wired Interfaces table displays the following information.

Parameter

Description

Port

Port number on the switch. Displays the connection status of the port to other devices.

To view more information about the port, click on a port in the faceplate. The port panel is displayed as shown in Wired Interfaces.

Description

Description of the port.

Connector

Indicates the type of connecting cable used for the connection. The supported types of cables are RJ45, SFP, and QSFP.

Speed/Duplex

Indicates the speed of the port. It also displays the duplex mode on the port. Listed below are the supported duplex values:

  • Full

  • Half

Neighbor

Device name or client name that the port is connected to. The icon displays status of the device health or client experience of the neighbor. You can click on the device serial number or MAC address of the client to view the device dashboard or the client-specific dashboard.

For multiple clients, only the number of clients connected to the port is displayed.

For a stack with a VSF link, the connected member information is displayed.

For an unmanaged device, device hostname or MAC address is displayed.

Neighbor Classification

Classification category of the neighbor. For example, Unclassified, Computer, and Smart Device.

For an unmanaged device, Unmanaged <Vendor Name> is displayed.

LAG

Name of the LAG to which the port belongs. The LAG name is suffixed with the type of the LAG. MC is displayed for an MC LAG and ISL is displayed for an ISL LAG.

Port Mode

Mode of the port. The supported values are Access, Trunk, and Routed.

VLAN

Applied VLAN ID of the port listed under the following categories—Access, Trunk Native, and Trunk Allowed. Applied VLAN is a VLAN which is dynamically assigned from the RADIUS server or device profile.

IP address

IP address assigned on the interface when the port is routed.

Role

Assigned unified Aruba user role to the client or a device. When more than one client is detected and when their roles are different, then the value is displayed as multiple roles.

PoE Class

Power class of the PoE port. The class can be: Class0, Class1, Class2, Class3, Class4, or Disabled.

MTU

MTU (in bytes) for that port.

To view information about a particular port, select the port in the faceplate. The Port side panel is displayed.

From the side panel, you can navigate to the following cards:

  • Click on the VSF link port to view the VSF Link Status in the side panel. You can click on the status to view the expanded view of the Stack card.

  • Click on the expanded icon next to Usage to view the expanded view of the Connectivity Performance card.

The side panel also displays the error messages related to ports. For the list of port errors, see Switch Health Metrics.

Transceiver Support

If a switch port is connected to a transceiver, the following information is displayed for the port in the side panel of the Wired Interfaces card:

  • Type—Type of the transceiver.

  • Model—Model name of the transceiver.

  • Serial Number—Serial number of the transceiver.

  • Product Number—Product number of the transceiver.

Important Points to Note for Transceiver Support

Listed below are the important points to note for AOS-S switches.

  • The AOS-S switches that already have transceivers must be rebooted after the upgrade to view the details of the transceivers.

  • The Type of the transceiver is displayed only for AOS-S switches that run AOS-S 16.11.0018 or later versions.

STP Support

The STP port state and root bridge information are displayed on the faceplate if you select STP from the Select Information to Display from the drop-down list. By default, the default instance MSTP-CIST is selected for the STP Port state.

Note:

You can hover over the ports on the faceplate to view the STP port state and STP role. The values are displayed even if STP is not selected from the Select Information to Display drop-down list.

To filter the details in the table, click the filter icon. You can filter the details based on Status, Connector, Speed, Duplex, Link Aggregations, Port Mode, POE Status, Errors, POE Class, Neighbor Family, and Neighbor Function.
