Configuring MAC Authentication

MAC authentication is a process used to authenticate devices based on their physical MAC address. This method of authentication provides an additional layer of security to authenticate devices.

Prerequisites

Create a WLAN profile enabling the MAC Authentication option. For more information, see WLAN Profile.

To create a MAC authentication, complete the following steps:

1. In the HPE Aruba Networking Central landing page, click the Menu icon.

2. In the Central NAC card, click Manage.

   The NAC Monitoring page is displayed.

3. Click the Configuration icon.

   The configuration view appears, which displays the Authentication Profiles, Authorization Policies, Identity Management, Visitors, and Messaging cards.

4. In the Authentication Profiles card, click Manage.

5. Click Create Profile.

6. In the Create Profile side panel, configure the following parameters:

   • Name—Enter a name of the profile.

   • Description—Enter a description of the authentication profile.

   • Authentication Type—Choose MAC Authentication

   • Network—From the Network drop-down list, select the network to be configured with this profile.

     • Select the Use for wired connection check box

       Note:

       Only one wired profile can be created for any authentication type.

   • Identity Store—By default, the MAC Address Store is selected.

7. Under MAC Authentication Settings, selecting the Allow All MAC Addresses checkbox is optional. If this is enabled, all clients will be able to connect to selected networks.

   Note:

   All authenticated MAC addresses are automatically added to the MAC address store.

8. Click Create.

   The MAC authentication profile is created and is listed in the Authentication Profiles page.
