Topology Link Node View

The Topology Link Node View is a graphical representation of your network where devices (nodes) and their physical or logical connections (links) are displayed in a map-like format.

The Topology Link Node view enables an intuitive and dynamic representation of network structures, modeled after a hierarchical tree format. This approach enables the visualization of various network components, including Access Points (APs), Switches, Gateways, and third-party devices. This view allows users to view connections between devices and seamlessly analyze both Layer 2 (L2) and Layer 3 (L3) topologies. With functionality to collapse and expand device groups, this framework enhances clarity while incorporating the advantages of the sunburst view, such as insights into health and network layers. It expands capabilities to include configuration and troubleshooting, with a particular focus on link-level analysis. The Link Node view is designed to adapt across multiple contexts, including individual site views and fostering streamlined and effective network management.

By default, a side panel appears with the following information:

Name, location, and timezone of the selected site
Isolated Devices—Isolated devices are those within the selected site that have no connections or relationships with any other device in the site. The count of isolated devices includes only managed devices; unmanaged devices are excluded from this count. Click the isolated devices number to navigate to the Isolated Devices page. From there, you can filter the device type you want to display in the table. The table includes the following details:
- Name—Name of the device. Click the device name, and it navigates to the specific device dashboard.
- Type—Type of the device, Access Point, Switch, or Gateway.
- MAC Address—MAC address of the device.
- Serial Number—Serial number of the device.
- Device Health—Health status of the device.
Note:
Isolated Devices field is only visible in the side panel if there any isolated devices present in the selected site. If there are no isolated devices present in the site, this field is not visible.
Devices—Displays the device grouping based on device types and the respective health of the devices
Alerts—Displays the total number of alerts generated in the selected site as per alert severity denoted in different color. You can click on the alert number and it navigates to the Alerts page of the specific site. By default, the Active alerts are selected and display the alert details. Clients—Displays the total number of connected clients as per their health conditions in the selected site denoted in different color. You can click on the client number and it navigates to the Clients page of the specific site. For more information, see Viewing Clients in List View.

Click the X icon to close the side panel.

Alternatively, you can also click the Internet icon to close the panel. To open the side panel again, click the Internet icon.

Callout Number	UI Element	Description
Topology Nodes
1	Uplinks (Internet, LTE, MPLS, or Metro Ethernet)	Any connection outside the selected site but connected with the devices within the selected site. The color of the line connected to the devices denotes the uplink status: Green—Uplink is active. Red—Uplink is inactive.
2	Site Limits	Devices within the site are displayed at the right of this limit. Devices outside the site are displayed at the left of this limit.
3	Gateway	The icon with four arrows displays a gateway in the topology. The color of the circle denotes the health of the gateway: Green—Device is in good health. Yellow—Device is in fair health. Red—Device is in poor health.
4	Standalone Switch	The icon with two arrows displays a standalone switch in the topology. The color of the circle denotes the health of the switch: Green—Device is in good health. Yellow—Device is in fair health. Red—Device is in poor health.
5	Stack	The icon with four arrows within two boxes displays a stack in the topology. The color of the circle denotes the health of the stack: Green—Device is in good health. Yellow—Device is in fair health. Red—Device is in poor health.
6	Access Point	The icon with Wi-Fi image displays an access point in the topology. The color of the circle denotes the health of the access point: Green—Device is in good health. Yellow—Device is in fair health. Red—Device is in poor health.
7	Unmanaged Device	The icon with a question mark displays an unmanaged device in the topology. This icon is always within a gray circle denoting it as an unmanaged device. Third-Party Devices (TPD): These unmanaged devices can also represent third-party devices. In the topology, each third-party device has an associated child device. When users navigate to the child device dashboard, the corresponding third-party device is displayed in the connection path, providing visibility into the device hierarchy and network connectivity. Note: For unmanaged devices, if the system hostname includes another vendor's name, the device will be automatically identified as belonging to that vendor. To prevent misidentification, avoid using other vendor names in the hostname configuration.
8	VSX, Cluster, or VSF	Devices with a gray background with dotted lines denote they are part of the VSX or a cluster.
9	Group of devices	Several children devices are displayed as one expandable node. It displays the different devices present in the group along with the health bar. You can hover over the health bar to see the detailed status of the devices.
10	Arrow	You can click the arrow to see the further logical links and devices existing in the topology specific to that group of devices. You can also collapse the links by clicking the inverted arrow. Note: Only one node or group of devices can be expanded at a time. When a new node is expanded, any previously expanded child nodes or devices are automatically collapsed.
Topology Edges
11	Green Dotted lines	These edges represent MC-LAG connections.
12	Green lines	Solid green lines are switched links.
13	Grey Lines	Grey lines represent that the connection status between devices is unknown.
14	Grey dot	Displays MC-LAG connection between devices and group of devices.
Other Topology functionalities
15	Layers	Allows you to visualize different properties of the network devices and links in the topology.
16	Zoom in and zoom out	By default, all the devices until level 4 are visible. From level 5, all the devices are grouped. Click the zoom in and zoom out icons to change the zoom level of the link node view. Click the re-center icon to adjust the view to its default view and size. You can also drag and drop the link node view.
17	Search icon	Allows you to search devices in the topology.
18	Layout	The Layout drop-down menu provides two options: Collapse all nodes and Expand all nodes. These options allow users to expand or collapse all nodes within the topology link at once.
19	Legend	The Legend panel helps you understand the meaning of the different colors, icons, and symbols displayed in the network diagram—such as device health and device function.
20	Mini Map	The Mini Map provides a simplified overview of the entire network structure.
21	Information	You can click the icon to view the Topology Hierarchy information. This information is displayed by default when you visit the page, and can be accessed again using the icon. Click Device Inventory to navigate directly to the device inventory page.
