Topology Map

The Topology tab provides a graphical representation of the site including the network layout, details of the devices deployed, and the health of the WAN uplinks.

Topology Calculation

Each device in the topology sends LLDP (Link Layer Discovery Protocol) information, and uses a combination of device function and device model to determine the Topology. Once LLDP data is collected, the system analyzes:

• Device Function: The role each device plays in the network (e.g., switches, APs).

• Device Model: The specific hardware model of each device that helps infer capabilities and expected behavior.

  Note:

  The edge direction is based on the hierarchy of the model.

Using the LLDP neighbor relationships and device roles, the system builds a graph of the network that includes the following:

• Nodes: Devices (switches, APs, endpoints)

• Edges: Physical links between interfaces (based on LLDP neighbor data)

HPE Aruba Networking Central Topology Views

The HPE Aruba Networking Central topology by default provides a Link Node View. This view is best suited for physical or logical topology mapping. For more information, see Topology Link Node View.

Viewing Topology Map

To navigate to the topology map, complete the following steps:

1. In the HPE Aruba Networking Central landing page, select a site for which you want to see the topology from the Sites menu.

   Alternatively, you can click the expand icon on the Sites menu to search and select a site from the list.

   The site dashboard is displayed with the site health, device health, and the number of clients connected to a specific site.

2. Click the topology icon to navigate to the site topology.

   The topology map for the selected site is displayed.
