Using the AP Troubleshooter
HPE Aruba Networking Central offers the following tests and tools designed to help you diagnose and fix issues related to AP connectivity:
Ping Test
The Ping test transmits a series of ICMP echo packets to the specified destination's DNS hostname or IP address from the selected device. This quick and reliable test assesses the Latency and Packet Loss between your network and the target device, which helps to identify potential network connectivity issues.
To perform ping test on an AP, complete the following steps:

Under Test, select the Ping radio button.
The Source field is automatically populated with the selected AP name.

In the Destination field, enter the hostname or IP address.
-
Click Start Test.
The Results panel on the right displays the test output.
Additional settings
Additional settings are optional, and allows the administrator to input advanced parameters to develop a precise test.
Ping test for APs allow the following settings:
-
Packet Size— in bytes (10-2000)
-
Identifies issues like fragmentation, latency, and packet loss that may not surface with default settings.

Packet Count— number of probes to send (1-100)
-
Ensures precise control over the test's duration and consistency, enabling repeatable and measurable diagnostics. It helps in identifying intermittent issues and analyzing performance trends.

Source Interface
-
Port - Another physical interface on the Access Point (eth0/1/2/3)
-
SSID - A WLAN network configured on the Access Point. When a SSID from the drop down is selected, the Access Point will request an IP Address on the VLAN configured for the SSID and initiate the Ping with the received IP as the Source IP. This option is useful when testing connectivity from a Client VLAN or when testing the availability of the DHCP Server.

The Results panel contains the following details:

Output Parameters—The following parameters are displayed in the test result:

Source—The AP name.

Destination—The hostname or IP address of the destination.

Packet Loss—Percentage of packet loss generated by the test.

Average Round Trip—Total round trip time generated by the test.

Additional Parameters (when provided as part of input)

Ports—eth0 or eth1.

Packet Size—The packet size in bytes .

Count—The number of probes to send.

Traceroute Test
The Traceroute test tracks the packets routed from a network host and provides the data path from the source to the destination. This test visualizes the route and any delays encountered along the way.
To perform traceroute test on an AP, complete the following steps:

Under Test, select the Traceroute radio button.
The Source field is automatically populated with the selected AP name.

In the Destination field, enter the hostname or IP address.
-
Click Start Test.
The Results panel on the right displays the test output.

Output Parameters—The following parameters are displayed in the test result:

Source—The AP name.
-
Destination—The hostname or IP address of the destination.
If you enter a destination that cannot be reached within 10 minutes, the test fails automatically.

Host—A single hop or a list of hops indicating the order the packets travel through these devices.
Note:-
The Results panel displays the hops only when probe response is received within 10 minutes.

Connector lines between hops and clicking on hops are not supported in this release.
-

Latency—The time delay experienced at each hop.
-
Speed Test (iPerf Test)
The iPerf or Speed test measures network speed and bandwidth between devices, allowing administrators to verify and troubleshoot network performance.
To perform speed test on an AP, complete the following steps:

Under Test, select the Speed Test radio button.
The Source field is automatically populated with the selected AP name.

In the Host field, enter the hostname or IP address.
-
In the Protocol field, select TCP or UDP.
-
Click Start Test.
The Results panel on the right displays the test output.

NSLookup Test
The NSLookup test is a program that queries Internet Domain Name Servers (DNS). The NSLookup test domain names into IP addresses that helps in troubleshooting DNS resolution issues.
To perform NSLookup test on an AP, complete the following steps:

Under Test, select the NSLookup radio button.
The Source field is automatically populated with the selected AP name.

In the Host field, enter the hostname or IP address.
-
Click the Show Additional Settings drop-down.
-
In the DNS field, enter the DNS server details.
-
Click Start Test.
The Results panel on the right displays the test output.
This test is supported for devices running version 10.5.0.0 or above.

ARP Table Test
This test discovers the MAC address of a connected device based on its known IP address and displays the mapping between IP address and MAC address of the device.
To perform Address Resolution Protocol (ARP) table test on an AP, complete the following steps:

Under Test, select the ARP Table radio button.
The Source field is automatically populated with the selected AP name.

Click Start Test.
The Results panel on the right displays the test output.

To view the table widget output, click the expand
icon.
The expanded table displays the following interaction options:

Search— Search for any given input across all columns on all rows and displays the entries which includes the searched key.

Filter Icon— Opens a device-based filter and displays the total number of entries present on a specific filter value.

HTTP Test
The HTTP test checks basic web server functionality by sending packets to the HTTP URL and tries to establish a connection and exchange data based on the response received.
To perform HTTP test on an AP, complete the following steps:

Under Test, select the Additional tests radio button.

HTTP is automatically populated under Additional tests and the Source field is automatically populated with the selected AP name.

In the Host field, enter the hostname or IP address.
-
Click the Show Additional Settings drop-down.
-
In the Timeout field, enter the desired timeout.
-
Click Start Test.

HTTPS Test
The HTTPS test checks secure web server functionality by sending an encrypted HTTP request and analyzing the response for a secure connection. HTTPS is a performance test to identify the time taken to load a secure web page.
To perform HTTPS test on an AP, complete the following steps:

Under Test, select the Additional tests radio button.

HTTP is automatically populated under Additional tests and the Source field is automatically populated with the selected AP name. Choose HTTPS Test from the drop-down.

In the Host field, enter the hostname or IP address.
-
Click the Show Additional Settings drop-down.
-
In the Timeout field, enter the desired timeout.
-
Click Start Test.

TCP Test
The TCP test uses TCP to send packets to the host, for example, an FTP server, and tries to establish a connection and exchange data.
To perform TCP test on an AP, complete the following steps:

Under Test, select the Additional tests radio button.

HTTP is automatically populated under Additional tests and the Source field is automatically populated with the selected AP name. Choose TCP Test from the drop-down.

In the Host field, enter the hostname or IP address.
-
In the Port field, enter the port number.
-
Click the Show Additional Settings drop-down.
-
In the Timeout field, enter the desired timeout.
-
Click Start Test.

AAA/Radius Server Test
AAA/Radius server test checks the connectivity and functionality of the authentication process. It is crucial to ensure that users can be authenticated before gaining access to the network. It ensures the radius server can correctly verify user credentials, like usernames and passwords.
To perform AAA/Radius server test on an AP, complete the following steps:

Under Test, select the Additional tests radio button.
The Source field is automatically populated with the selected AP name.

Select AAA/Radius Server Test from the drop-down.
-
In the Server Name field, enter the server name of the authentication server as defined in the device configuration.
-
In the Username field, enter the username.
-
In the Password field, enter the password.
-
Click Start Test.
The Results panel on the right displays the test output.
