Unified Communications and Collaboration
Unified Communications and Collaboration (UCC) provides a seamless user experience for communication and collaboration applications, such as Microsoft Teams, Zoom, SIP, Wi-Fi Calling, FaceTime, and so on. The HPE Aruba Networking UCC solution intelligently identifies, classifies, monitors, and prioritizes voice, video traffic to deliver optimal quality of experience (QoE) across both wireless and wired networks.
UCC solution provides application identification, traffic classification, prioritization, and visibility of these collaborative and communication applications. It also leverages cloud-based service engine capabilities to provide advanced visual metrics, detailed session analysis, and robust troubleshooting support.
UCC works in tandem with Dynamic Application Prioritization. It can be configured under Dynamic Application Prioritization profile. For more information about UCC configuration, see Dynamic Application Prioritization Profile.

Key Functions of UCC
UCC performs the following functions:

Application identification—UCC identifies applications used by end users.

Session classification and prioritization—UCC leverages real-time call data from access points (APs) to classify traffic into voice and video categories. A built-in heuristics engine dynamically detects and prioritizes media traffic, ensuring that time-sensitive packets such as voice or video are prioritized over regular data traffic. UCC leverages deep-packet inspection and behavioral heuristics to:

Classify media streams (for example, audio and video) separately from signaling traffic.

Dynamically applies Quality of Service (QoS) policies and prioritize traffic using Wi-Fi Multimedia (WMM) and Differentiated Services Code Point (DSCP) tags.

Session visibility—UCC provides end-to-end visibility of call sessions, providing delay, jitter, packet loss, MOS score, and other telemetry statistics for wireless network performance data. It enables network administrators to monitor application posture and experience on a per-session basis, detect degraded calls, and rapidly identify root causes of issues across the network path.

Real-time telemetry and analytics—UCC collects detailed session metrics, such as jitter, latency, packet loss, and retransmissions, which are visualized in HPE Aruba Networking Central application. These insights enable network administrators to monitor call quality, detect trends, and proactively resolve performance issues.

To support UCC’s application identification, media classification, QoS marking, and end‑to‑end call analytics, Global DPI configuration was added in HPE Aruba Networking Central with a Site‑level override mechanism. This allows administrators to enable DPI once at the Global level for all sites, while still giving individual sites the ability to opt out when needed. The underlying data model already supports global, site, and device scopes, and the updated configuration flow ensures that the HPE Aruba Networking Central UI exposes these controls properly and applies consistent precedence across all levels.
