Classification Rules
Classification rules define the criteria for categorizing clients. You can create custom classification rules by using the global options available on the HPE Aruba Networking Central home page.
To know more about how to create classification rules, see Creating Classification Rules.
Important Points for Creating and Applying Classification Rules
The important points to remember are:
-
While creating custom classification rules, you can chose either to apply the created rule to all the matching clients using attributes such as DHCP options, or to specific devices using MAC addresses and/or attributes.
-
If you choose to apply the created custom rule to specific devices, you must manually key in the device's MAC address in the MAC Address box. This field is mandatory and cannot be left blank. You can use only one MAC address for a custom classification rule.
-
Currently, HPE Aruba Networking Central does not support error checking for the MAC Address box. If you key in an incorrect MAC address, or use the wrong format for the MAC address, the created custom classification rule is created, but does not match with any classification.
-
Along with the MAC address, you can also use the Attributes box. This field is not mandatory. You can chose to apply your custom classification rule to a specific device and key in the device's MAC address in the MAC Address box, but chose to leave the Attributes box blank. However, you cannot use an incorrect attribute value.
