Client-Specific Roaming Card

The Roaming card displays a donut chart with the wireless client's roam details and the total number of roams over the selected period.

You can hover over a section in the donut chart to view the number of good and poor roams. A roam is classified as good or poor based on the following:

Roam Protocol

Roam Classification

11R

If the latency is less than or equal to 50, then the roam is Good. Otherwise, the roam is classified as Poor.

OKC

If the latency is less than or equal to 100, then the roam is Good. Otherwise, the roam is classified as Poor.

802.11

If the latency is less than or equal to 1000, then the roam is Good. Otherwise, the roam is classified as Poor.

To view additional details, click the expand icon .

The Roaming dashboard is displayed.

The line chart displays the wireless client's roam activity from one AP to another for 15-minute intervals, over the selected period.

The green or red dot represents the roam event. Hover over the dot to see more details of the roam, as shown in the following figure:

If the dots are too close to each other in the chart, you can zoom in for a detailed view. To zoom in, drag the cursor to the right. To zoom out, click Reset zoom.

The Roaming & Association Events table lists the roam details for the client.

Field

Description

Occurred

Displays the timestamp when the roam occurred.

Source AP

Displays the name of the AP that the wireless client roams from.

Destination AP

Displays the name of the AP that the wireless client roams to.

Roam Protocol

Displays any of the following values:

  • OKC

  • 11R

  • 802.11

Reason

Displays any of the following values:

  • Client Match - Default

  • Client Match - 11v

  • Authentication

  • AP initiated

  • Client initiated

Roam Time

Displays the roam time in milliseconds.

RSSI

Displays the RSSI value from source to destination AP. No value is displayed for a new association.

Channels

Displays the channels from source to destination AP.

SSID

Displays the WLAN SSID associated with the client.

Radio Band

Displays the radio band for the roam.

From BSSID

Displays the BSSID of the AP that the client is roaming from.

To BSSID

Displays the BSSID of the AP that the client is roaming to.

Note:

Association events are available only for clients connected to APs running firmware versions higher than ArubaOS 8.11 or ArubaOS 10.5.

Customizing Columns for Roaming

This topic covers the following sections:

Selecting the Timescope

The Clients page displays all clients connected during the selected timescope. By default, the timescope is set to Last 3 hours.

You can change the timescope by selecting one of the following options from the drop-down list:

  • Last 3 hours

  • Last 1 day

  • Last 7 days

  • Last 30 days

Changing the timescope refreshes the client list to display both connected and disconnected clients within the specified period.

Floorplan Manager

To open Floorplan Manager:

  1. Once you have selected a timescope, click on the expand icon to show more Roaming information.

  2. Click View in Floorplan Manager.

Note:

Three-hour roaming is selected by default.

Configuring Column Visibility

To configure the visibility of the columns, complete the following steps:

  1. Click the table menu icon.

    The Actions menu is displayed.

  2. Click Customize Columns.

    The Customize Columns pop-up window is displayed.

  3. Complete either or both of the following steps as required:

    • Select the column names to enable or disable the visibility of that column in the table.

    • Click and hold the action icon next to the column you want to move, and drag it to a new position.

    You can click Reset to Defaults to clear your column visibility settings.

  4. Click Apply.

    The adjusted columns are displayed in the table.

Adjusting Column Width

To adjust the width of the columns, complete the following steps:

  1. Hover over the left or right edge of the column you want to adjust.

    You can identify the edge of the column when the mouse pointer changes to the adjust shape.

  2. Click and drag the edge to adjust the width of the column.

    You can click Reset Column Sizes in the Actions menu to reset the column widths.

Filtering Table Data

To filter table rows by a specified field, complete the following steps.

  1. Click the funnel icon.

    The Filters pop-up menu is displayed. This pop-up menu displays all eligible fields and their possible values. Use the time picker in the pop-up menu to create a date/time range.

  2. Select the filter criteria in the Filters pop-up menu.

  3. Click Apply to view filtered results.

Note:

You can only sort the Occurred column.

Searching and Filtering in List View

You can search for the roaming and association events using keywords for the following columns:

  • Reason

  • Roam Time

  • RSSI

  • Channels

Additionally, you can filter the list as follows:

  1. Access the Filters pop-up window by clicking the filter icon.

  2. Select the filter criteria with respect to WLAN.

  3. Click Apply.
