Connectivity

The Connectivity card displays the upstream connection path of the wired or wireless client. The connectivity topology changes based on whether the client is wireless or wired.

Connectivity Card for Wireless Clients

The following figures show the Connectivity card for online and offline wireless clients. The exact connection path of the client is based on the network topology.

The following information is displayed for wireless clients:

Connection Path

The Connection Path section displays a graphical representation of the connection path for the clients.

The following data is displayed in the Connection Path:

  • Tx Rate

  • Rx Rate

  • Signal Quality

  • Wi-Fi Protocol Type

  • Radio Channel Number and Width

The left-most node is highlighted to indicate the context. The next 2 nodes indicate the WLAN and Access Point device through which the client connects to the network. The right-most node is the Internet. The exact connection path of a client may differ based on the network topology.

Statistics

Displays the timestamp of all the connections for the client.

  • Total Time Connected—Displays the total duration of all the connections for the client during the last 3 hours.

  • Number of Times Connected—Displays the number of times the client connected to the network during the last 3 hours.

  • Average Connection Duration—Displays the average connection duration for the client during the last 3 hours.

Connection Steps

Displays detailed information about the connection steps for the wireless client's latest connection.

The following information is displayed:

  • Step—Displays the steps followed to establish this client connection.

    • Association—Displays information about the AP and SSID to which client is associated successfully, along with the time taken to complete the association. In case of association failure, the failure reason is displayed.

    • Authentication—Displays information about the VLAN and Auth server on successful client authentication, along with the time taken to complete the authentication. In case of authentication failure, the failure reason is displayed.

    • DHCP—Displays information about the DHCP server through which the IP address was assigned to the successfully connected client, along with time taken to complete the IP assignation. In case of IP assignation failure due to reachability or timeout, the failure reason is displayed.

    • DNS—Displays information about successful or failure resolution from assigned DNS server.

  • Details—Displays details about the client connection steps or in case of failure, the reason for failure.

  • Completed In—Displays the time delay, in milliseconds, to establish the client connection.

When the client is disconnected, the Connection Steps section displays details of the last known connection. This section is not displayed when information on the latest connection is not available.

Note:

The Connection Steps section is supported for wireless clients connected to APs running the following firmware versions:

  • AOS-8.11 or higher versions

  • AOS-10.5 or higher versions

Connectivity Card for Wired Clients

The following figure shows the Connectivity card for wired clients. The exact connection path of the client is based on the network topology.

The Connectivity card displays a graphical representation of the clients connected to each of the switches, which in turn is connected to other switches, APs, or gateways. The exact connection path of a switch is calculated based on the network topology.

The following information is displayed for wired clients:

The Link speed and duplex mode is displayed in the Connection Path.

The left-most node is the client itself and is highlighted to indicate the context. The next node indicates the access Switch device through which the client connects to the network. The right-most node is the Internet. The exact connection path of a client may differ based on the network topology.

Displays the timestamp of all the connections for the client.

  • Total Time Connected—Displays the total duration of all the connections for the client during the last 3 hours.

  • Number of Times Connected—Displays the number of times the client connected to the network during the last 3 hours.

Connection statistics are displayed even when the client is disconnected, if information is available.

Note:
  • The Connection Steps section is supported for wired clients connected to AOS-CX switches running 10.13 or higher versions. This feature is not supported for AOS-S switches.

  • In the Connection Steps section, the connectivity path health of the client will be displayed as fair along with failure reason and assigned special role type when assigned to special roles such as Critical, Reject, Fallback, Cached-Critical, Critical Voice, and UBT fallback. This is supported only in AOS-CX switches running 10.14 or later versions.
