Appliance Restore and Reboot

Administration > Software > Backup & Restore > Restore

On the Appliance Restore and Reboot tab, you can restore an appliance configuration backup from Orchestrator to one or more EdgeConnect appliances in your network simultaneously. You can also view all backup information for each appliance, as described in the following table.

  • To view information for a specific appliance, select it in the appliance tree. The most recent backup for the appliance is shown.

  • To view previous backups for an appliance, click the arrow to expand the row for that appliance.

  • To view previous backups for all appliances, click Expand all.

Column Description
Appliance Unique identifier for the appliance.
Appliance name Name of the appliance.
Backup time Date and time of the most recent Orchestrator backup of the configuration for this appliance.
File name The name of the current backup file. The format of the file name is:

{ECOS version}_{appliance hostname}_{backup date in mm_dd_yy format}

Example: 9.6.0_MyAppliance-ECVA_06_01_26
Software version Version of ECOS software that was running on the appliance at the time the backup occurred.
Comment Comments entered by a user when they performed a backup of the appliance.
Recent restore time Date and time the appliance was restored to a previous backup configuration.
Status When an appliance is being restored to a previous backup configuration, this column displays real-time updates to show the current stage of the restore operation. When the restore operation is complete, it shows Restored.
Progress When an appliance is being restored to a previous backup configuration, this column shows a progress bar that displays real-time updates throughout the restore operation.
Actions Hover to view available actions for this row (View backup file and Download backup file).

Restore an Appliance Configuration Backup

This section describes how to restore an appliance configuration for one or more appliances. If you restore an appliance from a backup file that is older than the most recent backup file, you could experience:

  • A loss of configuration changes that were made between the time the older backup file was created and the most recent backup. Any changes made during that interval are not included in the older backup file and may be lost if an appliance is restored from that backup.

  • A loss of appliances that were added between the time the older backup was created and the most recent backup.

  • IPSec UDP tunnels may experience a brief outage as the new seed is applied.

CAUTION: Restoring a backup that specifies a static mgmt0 IP address, as opposed to DHCP, can cause an IP conflict if the network configuration has changed since the backup was created. Before restoring, verify that the static IP address in the backup does not conflict with any current network assignments.

  1. Navigate to Administration > Software > Backup & Restore > Restore.

  2. From the appliance tree, select one or more appliances. By default, the check box for the most recent backup is selected. To restore an appliance to the most recent backup, leave it selected.

  3. To restore an appliance to an older backup, click the arrow to expand the row for that appliance. Clear the check box for the most recent backup, and then select the check box for the backup to restore.

  4. Click Restore.

    The appliance receives the configuration from the backup file and reboots. The Progress column indicates the progress of the restore operation.

    NOTE: For EdgeHA appliance pairs, the appliances are restored consecutively. The second appliance begins restoring only after the first appliance has successfully rebooted.

View or Copy an Appliance Configuration Backup File

To view or copy the contents of an appliance configuration backup file:

  1. Navigate to Administration > Software > Backup & Restore > Restore.

  2. From the appliance tree, select one or more appliances.

  3. Click the arrow to expand the information for the appliance, if needed.

  4. Find the backup file you want to view, hover over the Actions column and click View backup file.

    The Backup File Content dialog box opens.

  5. To copy the content of the backup file to your clipboard, click the copy button in the upper-right corner of the dialog box.

  6. Click the X to close the dialog box.

Download an Appliance Configuration Backup File

  1. Navigate to Administration > Software > Backup & Restore > Restore.

  2. From the appliance tree, select one or more appliances.

  3. Click the arrow to expand the information for the appliance, if needed.

  4. Find the backup file you want to download, hover over the Actions column and click Download backup file.

    The backup file is saved to your local machine.
